^ it looks like it's unlocking some sort of evil potential.like an academy for gifted children to be raised against their will as hidden assassins. maybe some colour?

I would attend that.

I agree.  It looks evil and dare I say it depressing.
I think it would be best to start over.  Something more plain and colourful would be good.

Perhaps change the colour to orange and blue, portraying the tutor's link with VCENotes..

As soon as I read those two replies I immediately thought of Portal........and cake. Gerry's logo reminds me of aftershave for some reason lol.

From a marketing point of view, I think he has a point (not about that exact colour scheme, but some colour would be nice). You're trying to sell the whole 'students teaching students' kind of thing here, so going for either your current one, or even GerrySly's logo feels a bit strange given the whole corporate feel surrounding them. And I'm not saying that you guys are any less of a tutor than other teachers etc., but it's just that professionalism doesn't really necessarily equate to strict formality. Have a look at TSFX/NEAP's advertising.

EDIT: Oh, and for emphasis; VECTORSVECTORSVECTORS!

Not that these are very good, but I like the simplicity and it is something you may want to build on.  I also prefer "students tutoring students"  because it gives a really good impression of what your company is about.

It also has to look professional otherwise people, mainly parents, won't buy it.

i agree "students tutoring students" sounds better, but if your trying to sell to parents it may not sound that professional
labeling the tutorers as students may have unwanted connotations ie they arent any better than my child, they dont know how to teach "properly"
i know XLL is gonna be great, but just trying to think from the parents point of view

Yeah, that could go in the Mission Statement/about the company thing.

I don't think it matters. Heaps of companies have random acronyms where most people don't even know what they stand for (who here actually knows what NEAP stands for?), or that it was an acronym in the first place. When it comes to branding, the name itself rarely matters much. It's how you present the brand name itself. Once/if these guys get a website up, they can just explain it in a 'about us' section or something.

Having Xu, Levy, Liu faded lightly somewhere on the logo (bottom of slogan maybe) would be nice.

I don't think it's necessary. There's tutors other than just those 3, and seems like more of an ego boost for them than anything. Plus, it would make the logo too hectic. Simple is always better.
