I saw in the Chinese newspaper that they said the overseas students in Melbourne Grammer (99.95) rejected Rudd's scholarship offer because they preferred to study in the US?

That's most likely true.  The one who was all "I want to hit the dance floor!".  He's very keen on doing study in the US, although he's not outright elitist about it ala James Lu.

Don't see why this deserves its own topic though.

I thought it wasn't true. Hmm, that seems strange so they came here to do VCE then go US to study further?
Are they guaranteed a place in the US with 99.95 VCE (not sure if the US recognises the VCE system)

I think he's doing VCE because his parents are living here.  In many cultures (pretty much every non-Australian Western culture, even), most people end up leaving home for college/University, too.

And no, he's not.  The US has its own (relatively convoluted) process, involving the SAT, interviews, application essays, etc.

Um yeah this kind of annoys me.
Get out of our high school system if you don't want to go to Uni here and you just came here for education in the first place.
Don't come to Australia and take advantage of our education system and our teaching and then refuse to better the state of our country by going to study/work in the US.

.....err thats rather ill minded/short minded?

I PROMOTE and look up to people who do that.

Forgetting the Melbourne Grammar people, if it wasn't for the WAVE of people coming in/out around the globalized world, we would have Oxford University, and Harvard Uni lecturers teaching at Monash and Melbourne Uni....

We wouldn't have the British and Asian doctors we PAY to come here....

I plan to work overseas.....does that make me a "traitor"...I plan to go because I want to explore a whole difefrent world, new culture, new people.

To stay in a nation (not just Australia) to "better it" can limit your opportunities. Yes we have many opportunities here, but for many careers it pays better to be overseas. And like I said, it's not all related to pay, its related to EXPERIENCE and CULTURE.

It's more of an issue for DEVELOPING countries throughout Africa etc who are making it difficult to accelerate growth in their respective countries. However even in this case the money they send back to their families helps their country a LOT.

Forieng students coming in is Victoria's BIGGEST EXPORT (we "export" education), what if the foreign nations of China, India, USA held the same viewpoint as you? Our economy would spiral down

I think mavis was saying that they shouldn't come here just to use our education system and get perfect scores, then not even use these scores to get into their college/uni. Since the US doesn't require it, why take someone else's 99.95 or even 99+?  when they don't even need this score.

But i agree with Nova, it's good to gain experience outside of the bubble of our schooling lives in this state with the same people&culture who are used to. Yeah, we need to "broaden our horizon"

To be fair, it's not always the student's choice to study in whichever system.  Unlike with university, most seem to prefer for their kids to be around for high school at least...

Well entrance into unis are just based on demand and applicants are ranked accordingly to their ENTERs. If this guy doesn't even apply for any Australian unis, then his 99.95 or whatever score has no effect to the whole system as he isn't changing the demand on any courses really. What he does has no effect on anyone else's chances of getting into uni. Bad explanation I know, but urgh, I'm too tired to do any better.

@JAYFAN
lol, well it was the question posted in the first post =P (that I quoted by KenHung)

The replies afterwards all talked about US (thus answering the question), and then I talked about study/work overseas in a general sense
