Can you find the standard deviation of a group of numbers by hand? or must it be by calculator?

Thanks

^ last year in maths, my teacher used to go on about how he had to do it by hand. apparently it's some complicated equation, but we (in vce) only ever have to know how to use the calc to do it.

but if you look here just down a bit, it says how to do it by hand :P

Yeah.   You are only required to know how to calculate summary statistics on the calculator.

it's a not a complicated equation and it's quite logical if you think about what a standard deviation is, but its very tedious applying the equation for a large set of data.

It is possible, but not advised for the VCE course. You'd be better off learning how to find the standard deviation of a group of numbers throuhg a calculator.
