Offers Question
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:12:24 pm »
Hello,

Just wondering if you only put 1 course down in preferences and didn't get accepted into it, can you still somehow apply for another one even though you never put it down?

Thanks.

You would be very surprised...  And also, it's not a stupid question.  If you think outside the square, what if you put 4 preferences down and didn't get accepted into any of them?  It's the same outcome, isn't it?

Back on topic, if that is the case, then they won't get any offers in either Round 1 or Round 2.  As suggested, they could apply for an Irregular Offer or they could wait until the Supplementary Offer period, which is new for 09'ers.  Supplementary offers are, if you've "applied" for it through VTAC, is after Round 1 and 2.  During this round, there will be courses that still have vacancies.  Basically, VTAC will give your name to the universities and the selection officers look at you and see if they want to offer you a place based on what vacancies are available.

Well the question was dumb in the sense that ... I think the person who put FOUR preferences thought about their courses a little bit more than the person who put ONE preference. Stupid in the sense that.. applying for ONLY one course knowing that their are 12 preferences available to you is like almost asking for a Rejection.

Question from a Year 10, is there a limit on the number of preferences you can put down? And can you put down multiple preferences for the same uni? eg. preference 1. law @ monash preference 2. commerce @ monash?

Exactly that if you wanted confirmation.  The only thing you can't do, is apply for courses that have a "3" at the end if you are a local student or apply for the same course at the same uni twice.
