Hi guys,

When i was entering my preference i really was not sure between two of my preference. I really don't want my 1st preference, however i really want to do my 3rd preference and for the 2nd preference i just put there for fun even though i wont get in. What can i do? The 1st adn 3rd preference are both between my enter so theres no trouble there. What can i do? i really want my 3rd option rather than 1st. It all changed after i entered them in. It was to late to change it, do you think they will offer me my 3rd pref on the 2nd round of offers? Any suggestions

In that case, if you're ENTER is above this year's Clearly-In, then you will get your first preference regardless and will not receive any other offers in any subsequent rounds.

However, if you really want your third preference then you can apply for an Irregular Offer.

How would i apply for an irregular offer?

How would i apply for an irregular offer?

The form will be available in MyInfo.

1.  You simply fill out the form.
2.  Contact the selection officer at the respective university for the course you want to get into.
3.  Ask them if they are willing to accept you (ie. if they have any more places left).
4.  If yes, then you simply give them form in person (this is the safest thing to do) and ask them to sign it.  Once you and the selection officer have signed it, then it is means they have officially accepted you.

However, not all selection officers know if a place is available.  Should that occur, the selection officer may take down your name and contact details and will contact you should a vacancy arise.

Also note that if you apply for an Irregular Offer, you forfeit the right to be considered for any other offers listed on your preferences.

ok, my first preference is not over the clearly in. Its just over the fringe  enter. The course that i really want to do thats my 3rd preference is below my enter. So do you think theres a likelyhood of getting into the 3rd preference coz my enter is about 1 point over their clearly in. My second preference do not think about because i just put it for the sake of it. Its way over my enter. SO..??

Ok.  In that case, the best scenario would be:

1.  You get rejected from the first two courses listed.
2.  And if the Clearly-In ENTER for your third preference is still below your ENTER, then you will be offered a place for your third preference.

However, if that above scenario does not work out, and you really, really wanted your third preference, then an Irregular Offer would be the way to go - despite not giving you a 100% guarantee that you will be offered your third preference.

do i have to wait till next monday for this to all happen?

Yes, next Monday - the earliest.  :)

Also note that if you apply for an Irregular Offer, you forfeit the right to be considered for any other offers listed on your preferences.

Does this mean, after applying for an irregular offer, that you also forfeit the right to your 1st round offer, given that it has already been made to you? (I understand you can only apply for irregular offers after 1st round.) Or only that you forfeit the right to any _2nd round_ offers made after the irregular offer?

If that sounded a bit tortured and obscure: I'm 99% sure I'm going to get an offer for my 1st preference (Arts/Law Monash) for round 1 on the 18th. I will accept that offer. After that date, if I make an irregular offer for Arts at UoM, do I automatically lose my offer for Arts/Law?

Thanks.

I understand what you mean.  From what I believe, if you have received a first round offer and then do decide to apply for an Irregular Offer and then fail, then you can still accept your first round offer.

However, I'm not sure about this but I don't see why applying for an Irregular Offer and then failing would forfeit your first round offer.  After all, to officially decline the offer, you just don't rock up to enrollment day.

EDIT:  I've just called VTAC and they said that you can accept your first round offer and then if you do fail at getting the Irregular Offer, then at least you still have the comfort and safety of knowing that you still have a tertiary place in 2010.

Yay!  ;D Thanks so much. Definitely going to try for an irregular offer, then. You really are a fount of knowledge when it comes to the vagaries of VTAC. I do wonder, though, for something like Arts at UoM, which a lot of people must apply for, how many vacancies they would have for the chronically indecisive like me.

Also, if you don't mind, I'm just curious - are you going to request an irregular offer yourself? If so, what are you thinking of applying for?

I only have my careers adviser back in high school to thank.  She was pretty awesome when it came to these sort of things. And also, I'm so relieved I actually listened during those assemblies about VTAC lol.

I don't think I'll apply for an Irregular Offer.  When I submitted my preferences, I was pretty careful with how I ordered my preferences because fortunately, I knew how the system worked.  However, having said that, you and I never know what might happen next Monday so I'll keep my options open.  :)
