Might I refer you to s.52 of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth)?

Yes you may refer me to the TPA ninwa. And what is your case?

google "free". The most searched term on google along withb "sex". You will find many companies using this word and doing the same thing.

Just because you think it is misleading and deceptive doesn't mean it is misleading and deceptive by Law and according to the TPA.

*purrkat*: That is within expectation. However, it does not change the fact that flusher and yourself are definitely affiliated, and your comment is not unbiased.

It will be unfair to say that you cannot defend flusher, but in posting without declaring your affiliation with flusher, I think everyone would agree that it is [or even intends to be] misleading.

I would not like to see this turn into an argument thread, the decision is up to the students of '10 and '11. Posting defensively doesn't help.

Also, please read this. The source is cracked.com, so it's not very credible, but common sense would tell you what it says is quite spot-on. Guess what, you have committed Sad Internet Argument Technique number 1.

I don't think this post is getting anywhere but towards unnecessary time wastage, but I shall put forward my views:

1. purrkat, if you condemn the disapproval of your website, please answer the skepticism that is shared by everyone. There is no use merely obstinately expressing your view/answering extraneous allegations (e.g. defending your knowledge of what the word "proxy" means). Take into consideration why people are thinking opposingly.

2. As for people on VN, let the man/woman speak his/her case. Try not to make rash judgements too hastily, listen to some much needed explanation.

Just my two cents, no personal attacks meant. :)

I also highly resent the allegation that I am doing this out of self-interest for XLL.

If you post something deceptive on my website, I have a duty to expose that duplicity to my members. I have done this before on numerous occasions. Just look on the announcement board for examples of it.

Your insult to my character simply reflects your desperation when you could not address my actual points effectively.

Not to mention, they've also trotted out "the pity riposte", "the backtrack",  and possibly "be your own wingman". I love cracked.com

*purrkat*, you joined VN in 2008 and haven't used VN in a while and then when this guy hops on VN advertising his 'tutoring', you just happen to find it. Are you the same person as flusher?

What part of this platinum membership is "free"?

Good point.

This is the "Methods Report" or whatever it's called: http://www.mediafire.com/?jkwqm2dqzcz
This is basically a massive advertisement.

For those who cannot be bothered reading it:

Claim: "Problems that you will most likely encounter this year in Maths Methods CAS (There are just things you don't know that you don't know)"
- this is a list of pretty much every topic covered... which any tutor could tell you. Or you could even download the VCAA syllabus! How about that!

Claim: "Amazing but weird dude finishes Methods exam in 25 minutes and gets 100%! (Find out why he is so fast)"
- apparently through "plenty of practice and training" (no duh?) and "specific drills" (because tutors can't offer you that without charging $14xx?)

Claim: "Shocking Truth about private VCE tutoring companies such as TSFX and TSSM (What they really don't want you to know!)"
- apparently "many" students say tutoring company classes are "really boring" (GROUNDBREAKING!)
- because they hire outside teachers to teach (ditto)
- and have good notes but not necessarily good communicators (ditto)
- and having a tutor is a more interactive way of learning (duh)
- they're expensive (duh)
Okay sorry but what about that is "shocking"??

Claim: "Complete Maths Methods CAS Unit 3&4 Checklist (No Maths Methods CAS student can survive without this)"
- this is just an expanded syllabus, which any half-decent tutor or school teacher can give you
- I'm sure any student would have trouble with methods if they didn't have the course syllabus?
- "start with the most important topics" (no, really?)

Claim: "ENTER Masters – interview with Matt Skehan (How he studied 6 hours a week for most of the year to achieve 99.10 ENTER)"
- so his advice is to "study hard and consistently" (duh), "practice, practice, practice" (duh), "you only get out of it what you put in" (yay for cliches!), "pick subjects you like and not the ones that get scaled up the most" (how many times has that been repeated on VN? hardly groundbreaking)
- apparently university is a lot more independent learning than high school (no... really? again, how many times has that been repeated on VN?)
- more awesome advice: "work hard but enjoy year 12" (can't be bothered commenting on this anymore), and "have a goal or ambition" (sigh)
- you can get plenty of testimonials from 99+ VN members! Without dodgy "platinum membership" deals! Now there's an idea!!

I'm really bored and have nothing to do at work =[

Maybe the attached checklist was what was being advertised?  Or something similar?

Yes that is what I was referring to. It's included in the "report".

When in God's name did 'affiliation' (in this case with flusher) = misleading and deceptive?

Enwiabe - if you truly cared (from your heart) about the kids and people on this website, if you truly cared for your forum members (and year 12s this year), and had their best interests at heart - wouldn't you have asked flusher for more information about Math Methods Insider; instead of launching in to the "misleading and deceptive" argument immediately.

Can you truly say you came from the right place (in your heart) in "exposing" "duplicity" to your members in this case?

Flusher has value to add to Maths Methods students - do you care enough about your audience to be happy if people can receive great help in their final years of schooling THROUGH Flusher's program? What if the Maths Methods Insider program is outstanding? You should have asked Flusher to share with everybody what the program is all about. THIS is your duty, if you truly care about your audience/forum members/year 11/12 students.

If you say your argument doesn't have anything to do with XLL, I accept this, and apologize for jumping to conclusions.

Anyway - are none of you here affiliated? You cannot truly say that none of you are biased either. We're all biased anyway. We are all entitled to our beliefs, viewpoints and affiliations, and so be it!

That's it from me.

I'm sure the package contains some rather helpful stuff for the beginner, but some of the advice in it are much too general and cliched for the VCE veterans out there. This is probably where the point of disagreement is elicited. As the members of VN are practically all VCE veterans, and know that most of the information can be accessed without the need of a $1000 payment, they'll find it rather useless, if not "scamming".

Don't think there is need for any longwinded debate, though. The choice is up to the consumer.
