Year 12 New beginning **HELP NEEDED** please...

hey guys im new to this forum I been looking around its seems great. I got introduced to this forum by a fellow class mate and I thought I would give it a look...

Anyway I had a few questions
Im in the second week of year 12 term 1 and I have taken

English
Maths Meth
Chemistry
Biology
IT
Persian (ESL)

I would really love some study guides on the first 4 subjects there my main concern at the moment I am trying to get as much help as possible for teachers and others but doesnt seem enough.... I would really like some kind of guide from on studing my science subjects because they bring me th
e most trouble. A nice VCE essay guide for english would be great because Im not that good at essay righting because I only been here 7 years and my vocabulary is weak. I read alot of story books just to get where I am and improve my reading. I have stopped all kinds of social and sport activities so I can have time to study. I come home shower study dinner study and by 8, 8:30 I cant take anymore in  :(.

My last concern is that from what I know when it comes to ENTER SCORE its in this order

English
top 3
and 10% of others

Im am aiming to get some thing 90+ to get into some kind of medical at a good UNI
I really want my harder subjects to be my top 3 so do I have to like do kinda of bad in persian and IT to do that??? or do I get to choose which ones to put in. So yea your help would be very much pretiated.  :)

Welcome to VN (formerly FSN). Hope your stay with us is enjoyable :)

As far as study guides go, I've only ever bought some for chemistry, because it was my favourite subject. I had Chem Notes from A+ publishing, a fairly neat run-down on the areas of 3/4 chem. Whatever you get, be careful though and make sure you get a study guide made for the NEW chem course (yours). Coblin, one of our more exalted members also functions as a chemistry study guide :D. For methods, I just relied on my textbook, teachers and lots practice questions. Unfortunately, I cant help with your other subjects, but someone will sooner or later give you a hand from this forum.
"I have stopped all kinds of social and sport activities so I can have time to study. I come home shower study dinner study and by 8, 8:30 I cant take anymore in."
I was of that attitude early in the year, but  I think you should allow yourself occasional sport and fun time, even if it's spent in the backyard - or dining room :P.

Medicine with 90+? Which uni are you thinking of? And dont forget the UMAT!

You can't choose which subjects are in your top four. Your best scaled results are used to calculate your ENTER, so try to do as well as you can on ALL your subjects.

Good Luck!!!

Welcome to the forum. I am completing year 12 this year and also studying Chemistry, English and Maths Methods. I did Biology 3/4 last year. I purchased a few study guides for Biology, which I found very helpful. Checkpoints is a good book as it has exam-type questions (more analysis based). With biology, I found that the earlier you start writing notes, the better. Write notes on all the topics you cover, using a number of sources (eg. textbook, powerpoints, teacher, study guide). Do all your set homework and start doing questions from study guides. I agree with Ninox about the social activities. A bit of exercise, relaxation and social activities can really help your mind-set. I'm not saying that you should party every single weekend, but a walk every few days during your study sessions and some socializing will actually benefit your studies.
The courses you have mentioned require very high ENTERs. Veterinary Science is only available at the University of Melbourne in Victoria with a min ENTER of 99.10. Dentistry is also extremely tough to get into. I'm not sure about the entry requirements for Paramedic.
Good luck!

For your science subjects, Checkpoints (not a study guide strictly speaking) is a good resource for doing those practice questions. There are notes at the back of them though, but not as good as those in a study guide like the "Notes" series.
However, the maths checkpoints are not as good value, because they simply mix and match questions from past official exams. Might as well do them yourself.
The reason why the university's official sites don't post definite clearly-in ENTERs ie because there, technically, isnt one. They use a Range of Criteria (RC) to determine entry. But, I can assure you, getting 99+ as an ENTER is an important first step, particularly for Melbourne and Monash but I dont know about other unis though.
Your performance on the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test), I think is the other main criteria for medical courses. I personally havent done it, but there are some around here who have. It's important enough that if you dont even do this test, you have no chance of getting into most medical courses. That said, monash paramedic doesnt need umat.
going by reputation alone, Vet science is notoriously hard to get into, even harder than normal medicine, while Paramedic, I think is RELATIVELY easy.

No.

But getting a good UMAT score + ENTER can increase your chance of getting into a course ( Medicine @ UoM )

I just been to that Kwong Lee Dow stuff, and I am pretty sure that the UoM new gen Biomedicine degree does not require UMAT.

That is your biggest problem... do not give up life because of VCE. You need an outlet to get rid of the stress and frustation that Year 12 is going to bring you. Restart at least one of your sporting activities... please!

I might add that after speaking with several Monash Med students, a high 99 score is not strictly necessary. As well as the UMAT, there is also an interview. The interview's significant enough so as to let 97-low 99 students in who do well on it.
