READING TIME

I'm in favor of it being kept at 15, it's more time for people to become restless and agitated.

The extra shake tests your mettle. Besides, it's not a bad thing provided that you aren't the one panicking.

I believe 15 minutes is good. Just I don't understand why both Exam 1 and 2 for Methods have 15 minutes, despite Exam 2 being twice as long as Exam 1. My main use of reading time is to acquire a relaxed state; the more time I get, the less "restless and agitated" I get.

reading time was too long i agree. but it's also really good like...

in psych, i read through all the short answers carefully, and then read the research methods part a few times and then all the questions, when they said go i didnt have to read any of the questions again and just write down all the answers so it saves a lot of time... except i finished 40min early, so redid the exam .___.

I don't try to come up with answers and then remember them in my head. The effort required to keep the answer memorized, coupled with that needed to calculate the answer, disrupts my peaceful state.

i would say that it'd be quite hard to have all the answers in your hard for maths.
where in psych it's just like memorising...
"ok so question 1 is a definition of ___, then question 2 is application of ___ then comparing it to ____, question 3 is a definition of__ and ___, ect" it's pretty easy to remember something like that compared to equations haha.

This is essentially my point. Most people are overly nervous come exam time, despite how pivotal it is to remain calm.

Funny how you'll always hear about people talking of their stupid mistakes, but never about ensuring against it to begin with. This is probably the most common excuse amongst high achieving students (specifically, 40+; anything below that cannot be attributed to carelessness unless you literally collapse in fear at the sight of the paper).

Reading time shits me. I found myself picking up my pen and nearly filling out my multiple-choice sheet. I usually do the first few questions, remember them then blast through them when its time to write. Im not very good with managing my time in exams. I finish them so fast or I realise ive only got 3 sides left with 70 minutes still to go then completely slow down and end up rushing the last couple of questions. :\
Usually when I KNOW the answer to a question its down on the paper almost instantly. I dont need to sit and think. I either know it or I dont and thats usually determined within 5 seconds of processing the question.
Maybe if I finish with heaps of time left ill completely zone out of the subject, instead of thinking about the questions im not sure of, and then return to those questions 5 minutes later in a revitalised state of mind. Maybe if I *left* the exam (spiritually ) and returned a few minutes later i'd have different knowledge of the subject at the forefront of my mind... ...

GAH! omg so trueeeeeeeeee! everytime its reading time i feel like picking up my pen and writitng anyway but then what haappaens if i get kicked out so i tend to put my hands under the table and just turning over the pages now and then..


THE GAT is not useful to me and i don't think i would ahve an accident but their reading time seems UBER UBER long that i just feel like ripping up the papaer and walking out. GRRRRRAHHAHAHAHAHAH! especially since it was about bees last year for the essay thingo its like bee bbeee beee beee BUZZ BUZZ BUZZZ !!! WTF!

the gat means nothing, so don't worry (if you ensure you do well throughout the year and not have any serious problems... well that last one you must hope for!)

Im not concerned about the content of the GAT and probably wont do any study for it (can you even study? Its like studying for an IQ test ) I just dont like sitting in one spot for 3 and a half hours. I should be chillin after my mid-year exam.

the GAT is a joke for reading time. i wrote one of the essays and only did one paragraph of the other and still got 39 lol doesnt help when the whole year level are making farm animal noises for the first hour.
but in actual exams, that 15 mins is so crucial. its what the rest of the state sits there and does nothing with. plan your answers, think of how youre going to tackle the questions. especially in english, it is so important (even though i just read thru the article because the essays seemed pretty stock standard). use reading time in prac exams aswell

I agree with the ppl that say the 15 mins reading time is crucial in an exam, especially for the long exams (english, maths paper 2 etc), those 15 mins are quite strained since there's a lot to do within the time. Although I agree for shorter exams such as maths paper 1, the 15 mins seem pretty silly =P

3 hours for the GAT...great, I feel bored already.

I hate reading time in English exams. After I have decided what essay prompt I am doing I want to start jotting down my ideas, not plan in your head and hope you remember your initial thoughts 15 minutes later.
