Year 11 this year..

Hi, Im new to this forum and im loving the info that ive read. ( I hope i posted this in the right section sorry if i didn't.)

Im in year 11 this year and going into year 12 next year..My subjects im doing are Math method (CAS), accounting, Economics, Physics, chem and Normal english. I have not been able to get into Business management 3/4 due to the teachers saying i will struggle and stuff..
My parents want me to do a 3/4 this year so i could get an extra 10% on my 6th sub..( 5 subjects in year 12 + 1 subject in year 11). If i do 6 subjects in year 12 will it be a pain in the ass? My average grades are low B's to B+ and some C+..

B's are pretty good, so i cant understand why your school wont let you do a 3/4! IMO thats bull, you should have the right to do a 3/4 if there are others in your year level doing them. That simply means that the school is favouring people with higher averages to lift their average SS for this year. Thats discrimination imo. If there are no more spots then fair enough but otherwise you should be allowed to do it. I know ppl in my year level that got very low scores, but neverthe less they still did a 3/4.

Also: Six subjects in year 12 isnt such a great idea. Unless you are truly willing to sacrifice alot to study hard and do well in year 12.

I 100% agree with you, For our school though to get into a 3/4 you needed a grade of B+ for english..First semester i got an A..and then the Second semester i got a B..but its business management.. Can you change subjects when you have already confirmed for this year? This is why i hate private schools..What can i do? Parents go see the schools head of VCE? what if they say no?

also talk to your VCE coordinator or principal about doing a 3 & 4 outside of school. Our school let people do psychology 3&4 outside of school

If you got an A then thats bloody fantastic and a B isnt bad too...but as u said, its BM..wth..
I go to a private school too, and yeah we can change subjects even if they have been confirmed.
What can you do? hmmmm... Threaten the school, accuse them of discriminating against you? Tell them that THEY are giving you a significant disadvantage toward ur ENTER, your uni course (if thats what you pursue), your career and therfore your life.
Well maybe your parents can do that for you, coz i wouldnt want to give a bad impression of myself to the head of VCE...

How exactly is that discrimination?

I disagree. If you are only getting B's and C+'s this may show the school you are not ready to handle the pressures of year 12. In Bm C's and B's won't cut it if you want to get a good score, would probably only net you around a 30 study score wise.

In saying that it may give you a good idea in regards to the competition and amount of work that is required to be successful in year 12 VCE.

If the school doesn't beleive your past results make you capable of doing a 3&4 inyear 11, of course they can say you can't pick up one of the subjects. It's not discrimination at all.

Don't worry about your grades preceding Y11, I probably had a B-B+ average as well before I got to Y11.

Grades are indicative for some people and not for others. My grades have stayed pretty similar, but I have friends who've gunned 3/4 subjects in year 11 without ever ranking among the top handful of our cohort.

Don't worry too much about your own grades though. Choose subjects that interest you - you find find school a burden if you like what you're studying.

for the people at my school, they did 6 subjects in school 1&2 and their 3&4 outside of school, for the first semester, then the school allowed them to drop a 1&2 for second semester

Yeah sounds exactly like my school, tons of people get rejected every year, try getting your parents to argue with the school.

Its so stupid seriously, they just want to keep their reputation of high marks up.
