Doing all three maths subjects
« on: February 04, 2010, 08:03:10 pm »

I asked all my teachers and looked really hard on the VCAA site (hardest site to find anything, need to upgrade their search function).
My question was if I could pick up Further Maths for 2010 while I'm doing Spec at the same time, with all of the maths subjects' scores being considered? I did Methods CAS in 2009 and was going to fill the gap in my timetable with Further this yr.

All my teachers could tell me was that it was most likely that the lowest-scoring maths subject wouldn't be considered for ATAR calculation.

Because I couldn't get any concrete answers, I just picked Pysch instead. Obviously I can't change now but I'd like clarification anyway.

Any ideas???
Thanks

I think I read that if you do three maths subjects, only TWO can count in the top four.
I could well be wrong though
Remember, remember the 5th of November

2010 - MM CAS (47) - Cisco 1+2 (pass :P)
2011 - Eng - Phys - Chem - Spesh - Latin - UMAT
ATAR - 99.00+ plz... :)

Feel free to PM me for anything :D

That is correct, in addition, a fourth cannot count at all.

Haha, I was about to say that (I found the 'Tertiary Entry 2012' guide just then!) but you beat me! :P

Just some personal advice, but do you really want to put all your eggs in the one basket anyway?
You may get sick of the repetition of VCE maths :P

yeah but further was going to be a better option than psych coz it would be easier to pick up. In saying that, psych is about 1000 times more interesting

Do you have any other options available to you?

i don't mind doing psych. i find it quite a good subject. I could have done eco, further or probably another 6 subjects.

Last year when i was putting in subject selections, i couldn't get any answers on doing three maths, but i'm not saying i am now regretting the decision to do psych. I was just curious

Obviously, I should have found this site way earlier, tho. :)

Thanks again

P.S. looking at this year's timetable, doing further would have meant i'd have two exams following each other on two seperate days. Whereas, doing psych means i only have one exam a day. the little things count (Y)
