Choosing breadth subjects that well prepares you for GAMSAT?

I'm Just wondering.. I was originally going to do a language as my breadth subject but now having read the GAMSAT hand book i've found out that:

Section I: Reasoning in the Humanities and
Social Sciences

Questions in the Reasoning in Humanities and
Social Sciences section demand varying degrees of
complex verbal processing and conceptual thinking,
logical and plausible reasoning, and objective and
subjective thinking.

Section II: Written Communication

The Written Communication section is a test of the
ability to produce and develop ideas in writing.
It involves two thirty-minute writing tasks. Each task
offers a number of ideas relating to a common theme.
The theme will be general rather than specific in nature.
The first task deals with socio-cultural issues while the
second deals with more personal and social issues. In
selecting topics for the writing tasks every effort is
made to minimise factors which might disadvantage
candidates from non-English-speaking backgrounds

So... what breadth subjects in your experience will help improve these skills.. leading up to the gamsat??

Also.. What is the benefits of completeing Calculus 2 in first year?

I doubt there are breadth subjects that are directly suited for those sections. Even if there is one, you would probably be bored to death since they aren't tailored to suit your needs.

I would recommend:

175-120 Academic English 1
175-121 Academic English 2

I'm not really sure if they are good though...

To do some second year Physics subjects, engineering majors, maths majors

If you are doing biology type majors, then it's useless (with the exception of bioengineering systems)

I did critical thinking with data (800-101). It is an easy H1, however it will be of very little help for GAMSAT preparation. It is pretty much a Beginners course (and i mean beginners) in statistics.

I'm thinking...

800-101 Critical Thinking With Data
800-100 Seeing: The Whole Picture

I did "seeing: the whole picture" as breadth. I found some sections to be very boring, however, this will differ according to your interests. There's a bit of science content (evolution of eyes, overview of eye design...), which you might find interesting.

Not sure whether it would prepare you for the GAMSAT. I guess the multi-disciplinary nature of the subject teaches you to tackle an issue from many different angles (though, this also applies to many other subjects). The essay would be good practice for the writing task. You are expected to write a fluent, thought-provoking and well structured essay. Bear in mind, however, that it is the main form of assessment, so you need to be quite comfortable with writing essays  :-\
