Who knows...but my friend has her full timetable in adjustment mode now

Here's a dodgy story: her Bio lab is her 5th preference which was the Tuesday 10am..which was 180% full or something before allocate+ closed

No. You start the first. Some classes (e.g. Labs) won't start until weeks 2 or 3

I can view most of my classes in Allocate+ right now, however can't view my timetable through the monash portal
