Hail,

Well tomorrow I have got my first Lit sac (yay...), a review on a Umberto Eco's review of Casablanca. I have made a quick draft with the basic setting out I will use...anyone care to comment? Critique my critique of a critique please!

http://uploading.com/files/e9d75539/Eco_Review.doc/

Thanks

(I know, a lil late, but our internet got cut off for a few days and this forum is banned at school....sigh, always happens at the most inconvenient time lol.)

PS. I know its a bit short and missing a conclusion, I am hoping to think of more things to bag comment on during the heat of the moment.

OK so from quickly looking at it, it seems like you have a pretty good idea of what is required. It was good to see you are picking up on the reviewers use of language in your third paragraph. The more you can do this the better!

Ensure that you are clearly comparing and contrasting your opinion of the text to the reviewers, as to critique something you need to have an opinion on the text also.

One thing i could possibly suggest is when you are talking about cliches being used in many great pieces, perhaps give an example. By backing these claims up with evidence, it gives what you are saying more credit, rather than just having to "take your word for it".

Really try and dissect the language the reviewer is using, and use this as evidence to support what you believe the reviewers opinion is on the text. At the same time ensure that you are conveying your own opinion on the ideas you have, and discussing why/if these are the same as the reviewers. If you do this, you should cover what is required.

Best of luck!  ;D
