I over heard a conversation my teachers was having with a student.. i probably shouldnt of listened but im so close to his desk.

He said something along the lines of, i think you wont do so well in this subject, infact i think you will fail. I didnt recommend you would do this subject last year and youll drag the class down.

Im not exactly sure what he meant by this and is it even possible?

ha that's so mean.
well considering the strength of you cohort can have an impact on your sac score for the subject, yes he may bring the class down a little bit, but if everyone else is doing fine then he shouldn't be a problem as he'd just be some random outlier.
don't worry about it, if you smash the exam - you'll do fine.

A lot of my teachers would say the same thing, but it didn't mean drag the classes grades down, but more the classes frame of mind. Like they would play up all the time and not hand homework in

The teacher really is an asshole.

He used to pick on some of the more fob kids and he just hates some of the students. You put your hand up to ask a question, keep shouting his name out and he ignores you.

Like once my desk was like..idk 40cm away from his and i had a nose bleed, Sir!....can i go get some tissues...maybe he didnt hear me *louder* SIIIIIIIIR?....mmm ... *friends shout out...* nothing... someone right next to him pretty much whacked him on the back and then he responded.

I just think its harmful if he's going around telling people theyre going to fail based on last year or whatever... we havent even done our first sac..

Is the inverse true.. that is if there is one bad student and the rest of the class is good.. would the class lift them up?

I think that's the case.  It happened to me with Chem and English Language.  Despite doing extremely terribly for both exams, my SAC marks were not adjusted accordingly.

I remember reading somewhere that SAC moderation keeps the moderated SAC scores of the 'quartiles' of the class(i.e. in a class of 100 the bottom, 75th, 50th, 25th and 1st ranked people) equal to the 'quartiles' of the exam scores. That is, 25th rank gets the 25th best exam score as their SAC mark.
Though from personal experience this did not seem to be the case. So I'll try and find the source.

If the above is true, a few weak students(<25%) should only effect the SAC scores of the bottom 25%.

I found the info:

The third step is to use the external scores of the moderation group to adjust the school coursework scores for the group. To do this, the moderation procedure ensures that:

the highest* moderated score is made equal to the highest external score

the median* and quartiles* of the moderated scores are made equal to the median and quartiles of the external scores.

The moderation procedure aims to make the mean (average) of the moderated scores as close as possible to the mean of the external scores.
The procedure is then applied to the school’s coursework score for each student to obtain their moderated coursework score.

The moderation procedure is not influenced by students with anomalously low external performance, or by students who did very poorly on the school assessment but very well on the external assessment.

* The highest, median and quartiles are scores at the top, middle, 25% and 75% positions in large groups.

You keep YOUR exam mark, this remains unchanged.

The thing which does change is your SAC score. Your SAC ranking within your cohort is taken. Through analysing both this ranking and your cohorts performance in the external exam, your moderated SAC score is calculated.

The method by which SAC marks are moderated is outlined in the link I provided above.
