Im leaning towards doing it at UniMelb. I dont mind the course structure either. Its a lower ATAR to get in than Monash and its also a lot easier to get to. However, Monash has guaranteed Masters for their graduates. Is that enough to promote it to a position higher up in my preferences than Benv @ UniMelb? How hard is it to get into masters in architecture firstly at Uni of Melb and how hard is it to qualify for masters at another uni like Monash or RMIT?

Cant do it at RMIT because it uses a range of criteria for selection.

For a course like architecture I would assume a Master's degree wouldn't be necessary. I may be wrong as I haven't looked into it, in which case going to either uni shouldn't matter. Your decision shouldn't be affected by the fact you may want to do a masters in 3 or 4 years time. There's the possibility your marks drop and you decide you don't want to do the Masters so really you should look at just the undergrad degree and see which one you prefer.

Unless of course a masters degree is necessary for architecture in which case disregard what I just said

lol.. youre not a qualified architect unless youve got a masters degree. Thats why the guaranteed masters makes me think that maybe Monash is the best option.

i dont think that is true. if u really wanted to be an architect then you would study hard to get it qualified. i actually dont like the idea of 'guarantee' entry to masters in monash simply because it sounds a bit too easy. i am definitely doing b. of environment next yr 2011 and major in architecture. i am half-way-guaranteed since melb uni told us that you can get it guaranteed if you have an atar of 96+ and an average of 75%.
btw, i think monash is inexperience seen from their website. they have no work in the masters, telling us that their course is in some way new.
some people argue that they dont like it "broad" but i think this is actually what you need to be a successful architect. but then again, monash provide a course that is more specific for future career path, though it doesn't mean melb uni doesnt provide that!!!
if you are determined to be an architect, then b. of environment is also a specific course like monash because you will definitely pick subjects that is major in architecture in your very first semester.

for me, melb uni is the way to go. i dont even care about the transport despite traveling for more than an hour to get there, compare with monash just half an hour. LOL

a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush was it?

What happens when you dont get your required average of 75%? Its not that easy, even though it sounds pretty low. Do you have a plan for that?

If it was me, I'd snap take any guaranteed offer as a lot of shit can happen in the span of 3-4 years

if i dont get 75% it doesnt mean i cant get into the masters course, i simply have to go through the usual process of interviewing, portfolio and something to do with personal statement...
not getting 75% means that i am not guaranteed...thats all

and of course i would have never thought 75% is easy in the first place, it is of course totally different than vce... :)

it sounds stupid i know, but i guess i like it challenging and then punish myself if i fail LOL!
