Language Analysis

Hey Guys, (me again..)

Just wondering whether a long title within an article is an aspect worth analysing? and if so, how does it effect the reader?

I had the idea that long titles immediately convey the overall contention of the article, so that people 'skimming' through the newspaper are able to take in some information regarding the contention.

This is the article: (we were not displayed a picture)

Yes, but make sure to pick out particular words and their effects instead of just saying "The author immediately conveys his contention through his title ____, bla bla bla"

ok, how could I write 'skimmers' in the analysis? wouldn't that be a bit too colloquial?

People who don't read the articles of newspapers but just flick through to see if anything catches their eye, they tend to only read the headings and move on.

Just a quick note. Authors of articles do not write their own headlines so don't include this as a technique of the author.

But if you still want to use it, there isn't a real term that describes "skimmers" just explain that it attracts readers who only give the title a cursory glance but are drawn in.
