Its contradictory...On the actual exam, it says we can...however VCAA's newsletter to the teachers, said BLACK or BLUE pen....

I asked my teacher, then he showed me the newsletter... He reckons its contradictory aswell, but recommends use PEN for SAQs just incase the scanner doesnt pick it up, or any other reason...

Someone also told me IF pencil, then has to be 2B, so just take one and ask the VCAA person there on the day.

You can write in pencil... We are expected to read the exam cover, not the VCAA bulletin.  If they stuffed up in their instructions, then that is their problem.

The exam cover says we can use pencil, so I am using pencil.

Haha, but remember the ancient legal proverb... "Ignorance is no excuse"..

Seriously though, the exam covers may differ from the samples. Imagine if you open up the real one and there is no mention of pencil for section B...

And, again:....

Students should not write outside the border indicated on each page
Students should only write in blue or black pen

If something eventuates of this, don't say they didn't warn you...

xD I had that fear as well but after doing a few Chem and Physics exams in pen, the most I've ever crossed out is two lines for a question.
