2010 Unit 3 Bio Exam Discussion
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:13:59 am »
Hey guys just had the bio exam this morning. Just wondering how you guys thought you went. I personally found it very long, cutting it short at the end of the exam as I seem to write too much.. Some of my classmate found it short and other found it long. How did you think you went?

I also found it long, almost excessively long.

All the practice exams i finished in 45 minutes roughly, an hour max.

This i was cutting it fine, in the last seconds i was madly rushing to fill in the last 2 questions. I *just* finished, don't know if those answers will get me anything or complete gibberish.

Anyway overall, im pretty pleased on how i went.

Pretty stoked william can keep his cat too

Theres a tiny bioethics section in Nature of biology (Chapter 4 - Molecular Bio in Medicine, Pg 126) i think that is what the question was shooting for.

I wrote:
(A) What benefits will i get from this drug?

(B) Can i be sure i will get the real drug and not a placebo?

-------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: I didnt talk about side effects because in the question it said it was proven to be safe in humans

Haha the cat. For the last one I wrote the younger child will have more of a chance to be deficient because it is more likely, relating it to the graph. It was basically scribble by the time I got to it.

it didn't say the drug had no side effects, it said it was safe on humans. many drugs are safe but still have side effects.
i asked:
does the drug have any side effects?
and how and when should the drug be administered?
although i'm not sure.
did the question on photosynthesising animal/plant thing confuse anyone else?
i wrote about photosynthesis when the question asked about aerobic respiration :(

I wrote will this drug make me more suscpetable to infection from other diseases?, as it is an immunosupressant.  I thought this was right, but who knows what they will take.

For the second Q, I just wrote side effects/ any foods I can't eat?

I thought about changing it to how often should I take it, but ran outta time...

Uh oh, I didn't say that William got to keep his cat because it seemed like such a stupid response.
:(
I asked, a) does the drug work by suppressing the action of T lymphocytes?
b) if so, to what extent does the drug's action increase my chances of developing cancer
>.< i think i missed the point a bit...
what did everyone put for the part before that question? i didn't know what marked gluten as a non-self substance so i drew little spiky things on it and never specified what they were :P:P sigh
heaps of errors, but all in all i think i didn't do too badly
