Dream course...

In year 12 I was undecided between RMIT International Relations and Arts degrees at Monash or Melbourne (I ended up choosing Monash).
I had the ENTER score for the RMIT course and things didn't really... 'work out'.. at Monash. I thought about applying at RMIT but I can't apply through VTAC for the course, I have to go through the whole filling out forms, getting judged on overseas experience (I have none) and organisations involved in (again, none). Why is it so much difficult to apply for RMIT than any other uni? Like you cant just use VTAC if you're under 21.... sigh... pent up frustration as it gets to nearly a year since I've been at uni.
[ VCE 2008 ] Legal Studies 45 - English 39 - Biology 37 - History Revolutions 37 - Literature 24
ENTER: 92.80

[ 2009 - 2010 ] Arts (Global) at Monash University, Clayton.
[ 2011 ] went insane
[ 2012 ] Bachelor of Arts at Monash University, Clayton

I guess it's just the nature of the application process that each uni provides.  VTAC, on the other hand, is a unified government organisation that acts on behalf of all the tertiary institutions primarily for year 12s.  Why VTAC does not decide to do all the mid-year applications for all institutions baffles me, but if the institution decides to mid-year applications into their own hands, then I guess anything is possible - they're allowed to put anything on their forms.

I've had a look at UoM's mid year application process and it's not too bad, although some of the instructions are ambiguous.  The questions that they ask aren't too bad, they are all required in order to process and determine whether or not you're capable of completing the course and they also give the option of giving additional information about yourself should you believe that it will enhance your application.

The reality is sucks, but unformatunately you can't change it. If it's your dream course you should fill out the applications as best you can.

Is there something you have done which isn't very impressive but you can make sound impressive? I think that's generally the key to winning at applications when you're too young to have actually had work experience. You were surely involved in something in school, could you bend it around to be at least somewhat relevant?

Also, do you have a language? I'm sure that would help.

Otherwise, if it doesn't work out, you could use the next 6 months to gain experience - travel, join an aid organisation or UNYA or something, write letters to people on Christmas Island, take a language TAFE course, start a blog about international politics, volunteer to teach English to people from other countries, that sort of thing. I assume you'd like to do stuff like that hence your interest in the course, and it would make you look good if you decide to try again.
