Year 10/Unit 1 Methods (CAS)

Hello guys,

I really wish to excel myself further in the mathematics section of school.
I'm currently doing academic stream maths (Year 10) which leads onto Methods.
We use the maths book: Heinemann maths zone VELS enhanced. (10) -> Which looks like this... http://www.pearson.com.au/_FrontCoverLo/9781442505216.gif

I would appreciate if anyone could give me links/worksheets that will help me with subjects like algebra (Besides surds/expanding and factorizing), quadratic graphs; ultimately anything that will make me more confident with the upcoming Methods course. I wish to do some studying over the holidays, but not no-lifing xD.
P.S I have a CAS calculator. http://www.calculatorking.com.au/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/c/l/classPad_large.jpg <That model.
Yours sincerely,

Hacik.

maybe try to purchase the 1/2 methods book your school uses so you can have a look at it and attempt some of the exercises
(most of the early chapters are just revision of yr 10 but more advanced, except matrices which would be new to you)
and nailing function notation and cubics would be very good~
or invest in a tutor to accelerate and challenge you?

2012 : BA(Japanese&Chinese)/BComm @ Monash Clayton

I am getting a tutor (sisters boyfriend) to help me xD. He did methods so he should be a great help.
Also, I will consider borrowing the 1/2 book my school uses..
Nailing function notation ey :D
Btw, is there any bs stuff like trig in methods?
Trig doesn't appear until unit 2, and generally, there isn't that much trig in methods, and it's quite basic, I believe there is quite a bit more in Specialist. ie. You will get some trig graphs and a few basic identities but that's about all. Trig is awesome :) Unit 1 & 2 are essentially linear, quadratic, cubic, quartic graphs and more graphs etc..., prob, a bit of calculus and a chapter of trig. Yeah, good idea would to borrow or buy the 1/2 textbook - we use Essential Maths Unit 1 & 2 Evans et al., but any other appropriate textbook should do fine too :)

Good to see such enthusiasm towards methods lol ;)

Ha, thank you AzureBlue. I also like trigonometry xD. Its fun, except bearings.. That just peeves me. I enjoy the "Asian" style of maths, calculus etc.. Im better with algebrah as opposed to something like geometry.. I don't know why either xD.
I will definetly borrow/buy the method book and go through it with myself/my tutor. We use heinemann books until specialist.

Lol no calculus in methods til unit 2, which is... soon. Well, technically we're starting precalculus (rates of change or something). Yeah, I tend to find geometry more difficult than algebra, but at the same time, more elegant and beautiful. Good luck! :)

the best way would be to buy or borrow a methods 1&2, i personally recommend Essential Mathematical Methods 1 & 2 CAS, the chapters and examples are easy to follow, and at the end of the chapter there are summary notes which are extremely handy.

I will definitely have a look into that, can someone please give me a link to what the actual book looks like?

Thank you.

Oh why thank you =D.
Shame its so expensive :(
I'll look if there is a disc or something I can buy xD.
Any offers?

Btw, we use these books. http://www.lamontbooks.com/sales/mathematics/mathematical-methods/heinemann-vce-zone-enhanced-maths-methods-1-2-cas-ti-nspire-classpad-version/prod_6696.html

They're good too.

Lol I accidentally bought two copies of it actually: a non-CAS and CAS version which are essentially the same. :P
The disc comes with the book lol

Non-CAS.. Whats the real difference?
There used to be two different methods subjects before this year, where they scrapped the normal methods (ie non-CAS). In non-CAS, they would have calculators, but not CAS calculators (below).
Now there's only what we call "Mathematical Methods CAS".
CAS is a computer algebra system software program/calculator that facilitates symbolic mathematics (like the Casio Classpad 330 which we use, or the TI-inspire etc...). In the book, there's not much difference apart from the fact that there are added sections that explain how to use your Classpad or TI to facilitate the solving of a particular type of question. And seeing as there are both tech-free and tech-active exams and SACs in unit 3&4, having the ability to use your calculator efficiently is quite important.  ;D
