Should I do Further Maths?

I'm an average maths methods student who gets B's (without studying). i used to get straight A's in year 10 (not bragging btw)

Anyway, is it easy to get 40+ study score in further because i heard a lot of specialist students do it and even if i get a good mark i will go down?

What if I get A+'s the whole way through next year? How easy is it to get A+'s? Explain everything you know please :D

a LOT of people do further, and getting a super high mark is not as easy as you may think. and it also gets scaled down a sh*tchunkload
i think any average maths student doing spesh would end up with a higher study score scaled overall than further...
just my 2 cents

It's not proper maths so it really doesn't matter if you didn't do amazing in any other maths, but a 40+ is easy to get as the content is ridiculously easy but annoying and tricks placed (mainly for the modules i've done, i absolutely hate business maths). Just requires practice and practice depending on your level of ability to get 40+, the content is so absolutely horribly boring hat i can't even do the homework most days, and am now getting into methods and ignoring further (which im doing better in anyway ahah). So be prepared to work a bit even if it's the easiest subject.

Are you doing methods and spesh? apparently you can't get 3 maths in your top 4

40+ is like... high A+ for everything in school, and high A+'s in both exams

and yeah, further maths is like boringest shit ever... unlike REAL maths (methods & spesh)

Depends how mathematically inclined you are. In Further, the majority of the course is stats, you would have done some in year 10, so bear this in mind when you consider Further. As for the feasibility to pick it up without 1+2, it is quite doable, general maths can be covered a (committed) week by an average student of mathematics. For 40 raw you will need A+s which you probably already know corresponds to the top ~10% of students (whilst 40 raw is only 8%). For this you need ~ 93% in th MC exam and ~87% in the long-answer exam, I believe.

As vexx said, the majority of the material is quite... basic... so practice is quite essential. Unless you naturally make no mistakes whatsoever. Stupid mistakes are what destroy most (decent)Further students.

Also, not that many Spesh students do it(because only 2 maths can be in the top 4).

and yeah, further maths is like boringest shit ever... unlike REAL maths (methods & spesh)

They aren't 'real' maths either. Getting there though. All VCE maths is poisoned by the fact that everything is centred about assessment. Not to discount the material itself in any way.

the most boring thing about further is the core section. Univariate and bivariate data and Time series. After that it's not as boring.
"Don’t ever let somebody tell you you can’t do something, not even me.  Alright?  You got a dream, you gotta protect it.  People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it.  If you want something, go get it, period." - Chris Gardner

i find business maths unbearable, the core isn't as bad i reckon as it's so unbelievably easy you can look past any boring (still so boring though) they just dont have really any tricks in this section (haven't encountered yet).

Woah thats a lot of replies in 30 minutes.

If you were to choose between business management and further which one would you choose to get a better mark? Why?

BM gets scaled down too i think.

If you can average Bs without studying for Methods, then you should study properly for it and you should easily be able to get A+ for it. Now put that same effort into Specialist and a B/B+ should be possible. This gives somewhere around 32-35 raw, however if you go on with science/engineering, then this will really help you. If you're considering engineering at all, then you should definitely do specialist maths. If you find you enjoy maths then chuck further in and don't worry about the 3 not counting in your top 4, one of them will count as a 5th/6th subject so it's still worth doing
