99 requires a scaled average of something like 45 across all subjects, although keep in mind the bottom two are only worth 10%.

it's pretty fucking hard.
people on this board kind of make it out like 'it's not that hard' UM LOL. Okay then :|
I mean, you kid of have to be awesome at every subject you do, and by getting 40+ SS means you're like in the top 8% or less of every subject. That's slim.

Play around with the ATAR calculator... it is pretty accurate.

Last year my friend got a 92 when it predicted a 89.

But he did a few weirdy subjects like persian and some other random philosophy shi.

but still.

I do agree with you .. its actually pretty good.

doing hard subjects is depresso!  1 mark gone and your life is practically ruined. I should have done some easier subjects.  less pressure to get everything right.

I find it's the opposite because on a easy subject you need to near ace it to get you high SS while for a hard subject scaling will do the work for you (provided you don't do too bad).

Do "unpopular" or "uncommon" subjects like for example, texts and traditions, lower chances of achieving like a high 90's ATAR?

No. The reason "unpopular and uncommon" subjects don't feature in those who get 99+ is that they have no scaling, possibly negative and if you are not one of the top, capable of getting 48 ~ 50 then you should opt for a subject that will give you a +4 ish scaling such as Methods. It is also often said that you can't get a 99.95 without a subject that scales over 50; not sure on that though.

No way! :)

A 50 in Texts and Traditions is still possible. So is a 46. Or a 30.

You will do well in subjects you enjoy, not subjects like the "Asian 5" that 'most' Duxes do.

But the Dux at my school last year did less 'smart' subjects - a 50 in Economics, Accounting and Further Maths... an ATAR of 99.60.

For texts and traditions, YES DEFINETELY screws your enter.
I did that in year 11 and most of the people in my class had high 90's SAC averages, and we all ended up with ~30 SS. the top student had sacs 100%, and ended up with 32 or 34. imo... some of these "so called" easy/unpopular subjects need to be scaled MORE than say... spesh, they are not easy at all.
2009: Texts & Traditions (28)
2010: English (45), Chemistry (40), Methods CAS (43), Specialist Maths (42)
ATAR: 98.40

You can get 99.95 with any subject - it's just extremely hard because you need 49s and 50s. Scale-up subjects just give you some 'cushioning' because as they scale over 50 others need not be so high.

I'd argue it still depends on your ability and not the subject. I did texts and traditions and scored 40+.

Maybe your class was being marked too easily by your subject teacher? Or the exam was particularly hard/not quite what your class had studied?

She said that she got our sacs cross marked with a teacher from another school, and the other teacher said that my teacher marked TOO HARD! so i dunno, this makes absolutely no sense...

Depends on the year. If the 99.95 aggregate is over 210, then it's absolutely impossible for anyone without 50+ scale up subject to get it. But even if its >210, it's still WTF difficulty.

Last year = 209.1 or something like that. And to get that with non-50+ scaling subjects you need all 50's basically, just a single score less than 49 scaled in your top 4 disqualifies you lol.

2010 ATAR: 99.90
