Is the actual clearly-in usually close to the 'minimum'?

From experience since the Model came into play, usually yes, except for last year for science.  The minimum is really more important for international students rather than domestic students.

random question, there is no possible way to get into science at melbourne without methods, yes?
would be interesting to look into if there was some sneaky loophole.

For the standard VTAC start of year intake, no.

So, in theory, an enter of 90 SHOULD be enough to get into Science at Melbourne?

I don't know what you mean by "in theory" but going by the minimum ATAR, yes.  Getting 90+ should secure you a CSP place in B.Sci unless if you were in my year level.

Thanks. By in theory I meant that it would normally get you in, but might not (depending on the year level).

The minimum ATAR of 85.00 should be the figure that students are basing their decisions on, rather than the CIR from 2010, if considering applying for the Bachelor of Science for 2011.

I felt so sorry for the people in VCE last year, since when I finished VCE it was only ~85, this year it was ~89 (if I finished VCE last year and got my ENTER of 89.45 I would have been right on the edge).

My assumption is that this year it could hit 90 or even higher since it's the degree prospective engineers (the ENTER required for entry into BEng this year was ~96) and medical students (well they also have BBiomed but last year the minimum was 98 and may hit 99) are going to take, so the number of people wanting to go into science is going to grow by a fair bit.
2008: Finished VCE

2009 - 2011: Bachelor of Science (Mathematical Physics)

2012 - 2014: Master of Science (Applied Mathematics/Mathematical Physics)

2016 - 2018: Master of Engineering (Civil)

Semester 1:[/b] Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Risk Analysis, Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering

Semester 2:[/b] Earth Processes for Engineering, Engineering Materials, Structural Theory and Design, Systems Modelling and Design

Yes, but keep in mind that we were still in the middle of the Global Financial Crisis this time last year, which obviously put strain on university places with heaps of kids rushing off to university to become more "employable." I'm predicting the class of '10 is going to have it much easier than the class of '08 and '09 with the clearly-ins easing somewhat, especially with generalist degrees like the BA and BSc.

But, of course, given the recent changes with the Melbourne Model, perhaps the clearly-ins won't change much at all. It's all a guessing game really, but I can't see the clearly-ins rising much if at all.

There was a post, and link to unimelb, saying the clearly in will drop to 84~ due to an additional few hundred spots available.

(the ENTER required for entry into BEng this year was ~96)
i dont think it was that high :S

Oh it was, it was. Apparently UoM like halved the number of places though.

Yeah, for the final intake, I wouldn't be surprised if they halved the number of places.  :(

With B.Sci, I don't think it will rise much more.  I'm predicting that it will drop because they are offering more places.  For example, in Commerce, I heard the reason why the Clearly-In dropped in for the Class of '09 is that they offered a few hundred more places.

my guess is that itll be around ~87
higher than 08 because the course is in high demand
lower than 09 because of the extra spots
class of 2010!

Is first priority given to students with a clearly ATAR and Access Melbourne applicants? The Access applicants must get it because they are guaranteed (met all the requirements). So the remainder of the places are given to those below the clearly in ?
Is this how it works?

Hmm
