Uni Chem

hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Uni chem and what they felt about the level compared to a 3/4 chem. Im doing 2 3/4's this year in methods and bio , but my school is forcing me to take a 5th one for next year so I though uni chem might be an option. I do chem olympiad currently, and another positive is that uni chem is run directly in our school, only have to go to campus for prac.

I'd say definitely go for it.
- Conviently in your school
- Less work compared to a VCE subject
- Helps with normal chem
I do uni chem, and i do zero work for it every week (like most) and we just cram the day before the exams, we all got HD's too so it's pretty easy to cram for and will make normal chem so easy!

Haha the prac work is annoying, and tiring, and long and just arghh. But we all usually get very good marks of HDs, on average even without knowing what we are doing ahah.
The course material mirrors quite closely but of course uni chem goes so much further, so we are doing thermochemistry in uni chem after finishing equilibrium and kinetics lectures.
And area of study 1 in normal chem is mostly equilibrium related.

The first prac you do is really stressful.. But once you get in the knack of the process it's not too bad(like everything I guess). Your demonstrators are usually really helpful and give you all the answers anyway. xD

The secret with uni chem is to do really well in the web tests/pracs as they make up 40% of your mark. If you can consolidate 35-40% of your mark before even sitting the exam it relieves you of a lot pressure(since you only need 50% overall to pass). The exam is not a hurdle so you don't need to pass the exam to pass the unit.
In terms of work load.. I did jack shit last semester and got a HD. I didn't even take notes in class. However, this obviously varies from person to person and i don't condone it at all.
The course work is sort of related to chem 3/4, but it doesn't help hugely imo(well at least for last semester). You do however have a big overlap with unit 1 chem, so if you ripped that the first couple of weeks will be cake.

Also, I endorse everything vexx says. He's right on the money.

Thanks fellas, btw where do you guys go for your lessons. I as talking to my teachers they said it would be from  430 to 630 on tuesdays at our school, which is quiet convenient.

Yeah ive heard with the pracs, they monitor you quiet carefully, and also for the web tests people have said they just work together and eveyrone gets 100%

yeah scotch is 445-645 and if at your school then thats perfect.
haha the tests, you can take as much time as you want at home and use all your books and google to find answers, ive never lost more than one mark from the 7 done so far. it's easy you'll be fine.

Can wholeheartedly recommend Unichem, especially at Scotch! Really interesting, worthwhile!! And Dr C (lecturer) is good too.
Helps a bit with 3/4 chem, it's hard to tell how much. If you've done olympiad this year, you'll find Mr Peters covered HEAPS of stuff for unichem so there is a lot of stuff you've seen before.

Peters is a legend, seriously he is like one of the best chem teachers @ Scotch, I did olympiad with him and it was by far my fave subject in year 11. Hated chem in year 12 though.
