Biggest mistake

Hi guys,

I was wondering, what do you think is the biggest mistake you have made in terms of VCE, it can be choosing the wrong subject, doing something procedurally incorrectly, paying too much (or not enough) attention to scaling, or anything relevant that has cost you and you wish you had known at the start of VCE.

I think that a big benefit of doing a year 12 subject before year 12 is that you are able to make those mistakes and work out what you are meant to do and what you're not meant to do, and a lot of these things you can't learn without making the mistakes and the rectifying them.

For me, my biggest mistake so far was choosing media studies. I didn't realise how much time I would waste doing the subject, and it has demanded my time and resources without delivering in terms of future grades and it's gonna be a bitch in terms of scaling.

My biggest mistake was letting my school be the only source of knowledge on what VCE subjects to do and how to do them. By this I simply mean my school didn't provide the resources to tell students that subjects could be done by distance education and that in year 12 you could do university subjects. I'm surprised they never told us about it considering the school directly across the road from us (literally right across the road) taught university subjects there

My biggest mistake is not ensuring i did further 3/4 in year 11, and doing English language by distance this year, and only 4 other subjects.

i share vexx's sentiment exactly when it comes to englang.  should have also done distance ed, and although regular english is nearly over know so it doesn't matter anymore, it has been hell and sucks big time....

does distance education mean doing a subject outside of school, like at tafe or something?

you wouldnt have been able to do further anyways without doing general (further) yet in yr 10?

I'm tossing up between:

- Not doing 2 3/4s in year 11
I was actually going to do all 1/2s in Year 11, but since I'd self-studied Methods 1/2 I thought that it might be a waste of time to repeat. Doing 2 3/4s would certainly have reduced the stress in year 12.
- Doing English Language instead of English
English Language was advertised as the more 'sciency' alternative to English. I don't know, it probably is, but it's the more 'social' type science, which I didn't enjoy. Additionally, the bias towards only Australian English was something I loathed. I should have paid more heed to my school's poor results in English Language and stuck with English.

Further 3/4 has no prerequisites like most subjects. Barely any of my subjects i do i did the 1/2 for (only chem and methods).

then that means ill probs end up regretting doing hard bio in yr 11 and not further. but i cant do it now anyway, since my subject selection forms were due already and i didnt have the guts to ask about doing further outside of school...

no bio is a good idea, more time to focus on it.maybe do both?
ask your school when you go back mon, drop one of your 1/2s and then enroll at tafe. very simple.;)
or just smash bio on its own!
