Say I was hoping to do DVM after my two years of BSc. @ Melbourne. Aside from 98.5 and 70% average in first two years and simply getting into BSc. and applying at the end of second year, do full fee places still exist for non-international students?

Let me know if I've mixed something up =P

Just making sure you know, but you still have to complete your undergrad degree, you don't get to transfer at the end of 2nd year if you meet the guaranteed pathway requirements (although if you do the "right" major you can skip 1st year apparently)

Full fee local places for DVM, as far as I know, don't exist but based on what happened with the MD they may well be introduced by the time you apply.

Yep. Thanks for the confirmation.

Another thing; how would one apply for Vet. Medicine etc in terms of majors and such? I know you do Animal Health etc, but is Veterinary Bioscience specialisation in third year something I only need to be concerned about in Uni (ie. is all this made clearer when I get into UoM)? I just want to clear all this stuff so I know what to do in the next few months (with Course Selection etc ending this September).

I don't know if any of this was mentioned at the Open Day, but I had other commitments and I missed out D:

Picking your major is done whilst at uni, you don't need to worry about it until after VCE is over (you probably don't need to worry until 1st year of uni is over)

Okay, thanks a lot. Also looked at the FAQ and Brochures that I found around town and those have answered some other questions.

Cheers (y)

Judging from reading your english language essay, I have no doubt that you will make it to the veterinary science world. :)

Completing the Veterinary Bioscience major under the BSc guarantees entry into DVM. There are a few subjects you need to do for this major and it's quota restricted.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I'm reading it is you have to complete that major, but to get into that major you have to have scored 98+ as an ENTER? Correct?

No, entry into the Veterinary Bioscience subjects in third year are based on academic merit - depends on first/second year marks.

Where are you getting that from? There's no Enter -> major requirement

Oh right. On that link (http://cms.unimelb.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0014/331124/Guaranteed_Entry_2011.pdf) it says something about a 98.5 enter there, but that's for a Commonwealth supported place. Additionally, underneath that it also says the part about the progression from a Bachelor of Science.
I guess i should actually read what it says haha :P

Yes, to summarise and to clear up any discrepancies, to be guaranteed a CSP place in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, you must have:

  • Achieved an ATAR of 98.5.
  • Enrol into the Bachelor of Science.
  • Complete first and second year with a H2B (70%) average with the required pre-requisite subjects to complete a major in Animal

Health and Disease specialising in Veterinary Bioscience.
