How many hours a night do you study?
« on: September 08, 2010, 07:36:19 pm »
What is the expected number of hours per night that I should be studying?
I generally get 1.5 hours-3 hours of study per night which includes any assignment tasks.
What do you think is the beneficial?
How many hours do you study on the weekend?
Thanks, RB

To avoid getting burnt out way too early, 2-3 hours is sufficient.
Broken up into 30-60 min intervals
Closer to exam time probably raise it to 4
Weekends 6 ish per day?
Take a day off if you feel too tired, doesn't hurt, it might even help some stuff click into your brain

Yeah that sounds like a plan. Although 12 hours study over 2 days seems a bit extreme, especially with part time job/sports etc.

personally
about 3-4 hours a night ( used to be 5-6 lol . then had mid years and now i cbf).

best way to study
50 mins study
5 min break
5 min review

10 min break .. 2 min review

back to 50 mins study
i call it
the 50 , 5 , 5 , 10 , 2.

science shows that after 50 mins , the mental/cognitive abilities start to shut down and your body needs some energy and a break.
so take a break . come back .. revise .. take another short break .. revise what you learned
you learn alot more by repeating the information as it more readily can be encoded with stronger encoding and transferred to long term memory. :)

so study for 50 mins .. break .. the more u revise . the better you do
and p,.s
when u take a break . dont do anything electronically . it will interfere with the "setting" of the stuff you learned.
go eat an apple . get a drink .. rest
come back to study

Recently: 0-1hr/night.
Things have been so bad with my study haha.

But tomorrow i'm leaving school before 12 and going to go do like 7-8hrs to catch up with heaps of things! Then light study across on fri-sunday, and then going up to 5-7hrs/day next week! the days less will be where im reviewing a subject+2 prac exams, and the days more will be because of 3 prac exams including methods.

Back in year 12 all I did was read maths and browse maths forums/blogs when I got home from school and would leave lots of other work piled up for the weekends.

Nowadays my study is routine is way different.

I'd normally study from when I wake up, so from 5pm-9pm ish (with dinner in between). Then after dinner I would play some piano or table tennis just to relax then study again from 10:30pm-6/7am.

Treat study as a hobby, that way you will study and time just flies without you even realising it.
