My advice (which is what I'm doing as well) is to start doing practice exams... no matter what year it is from. Do as much as you possibly can... even attempt those you're unsure of. Once you've done a paper... check your answers against the solutions and write down the stuff you got wrong in a separate book or something - I called mine a 'mistakes' book. LOL. That way you know what you need to improve on.

Once you've written all the stuff you got wrong, go through your textbook or notes and look over that particular section that you got wrong. Make sure you fully understand it, before trying another practice exam. This will improve your mark for the next time you do a practice paper... this will also hopefully limit your errors!

Good Luck!

What book do you use? Have you attempted all those exercises?
Yesterday was the first time i attempted an exam and i also got stuck simply because i forgot how to do things and also because i hadn't touched accounting in so long.
I think you just need more practise before hitting the exams.
Try checkpoints(even though it's crap, it will be good practise), exambusters is preety good.

Well there is no point in continuing doing practice exams if you don't know the content! That's pointless.

I would do maybe two or three (without the textbook) to see what areas are problematic.  Then grab the study design and your textbook and go over the theory relating to these areas. Knowledge of the theory behind the course and having an understanding of how the accounting system works is imperative to be able to complete practical work. Once you've done this, redo some of the questions from the related chapter from your textbook.

If you do download the study design, go to the 'advice to teacher's' section. This area explains many areas of the course, provides proforma journals/ledgers and goes into the finer details required to get good marks in accounting.

Once you've gone over your weaknesses, then get back into the practice exams. If you still need help, get a tutor! I am sure there are many on VN who would be willing.

LOL err... since Accounting is my only 3/4 subject, we started doing practice exams like 3~4 weeks ago. I've been doing an exam basically everyday (since the hols). :|

The exams are there to test you in what you've learnt in Unit 4 (not to say there won't be some Unit 3 stuff on it as well!) - on how well you fully understand the concepts and theory in Unit 4. Most questions you'll get in practice papers are pretty much the same... they are just worded differently from paper to paper.

Although in light of what I said, I do agree with mba, he raises some valid points if you're unsure of some of the content.

Also, in an additional point, if you're confident with all the content, try doing different exam papers (e.g. VCAA, Insight, CSE, COMPAK, NEAP etc). This will expose you to different types of questions, which may be re-worded differently. Thus, when it comes to the exam, you'll will have covered everything to the best of your ability. Don't just stick to one company/type of exam, as some exams are harder than others while some are relatively easy.

While on the topic of exams, I would recommend you get as many 2010 exam papers produced by the different companies as  you can.
Many of the companies employee past and present VCAA exam writers/assesors to produce these.
They are produced with current issues/problems in mind.
Remember that as each year goes on into a course study design the difficulity/complexity increases.
It is important to therefore complete as many recent papers (Neap/CPAP/Insight etc.) as you can.

I would recommend the NEAP exams when you think you have covered everything off as they tend to be the most difficult.
