Picking up Accounting

Hi, I'm considering dropping Bio for Accounting next year, and I would like to know how important units 1+2 are to units 3+4. Would I be able to go into the class and pick it all up with a reasonable work ethic? How hard would you class the math that is involved in accounting? I'm averaging B's in Further 1+2 so should I be ok in that aspect would the math be harder than further?

Any advice would be helpful thanks  :)

Speaking from experience, I didn't even do Units 1/2 Accounting. I went straight into Accounting 3/4.

As long as you keep up and do the exercises required, that should keep you in good stead. The maths involved in Accounting is simple... you're given most formulas in the textbook... as long as you can work a scientific calculator, you'll be fine. It's really simple maths... adding, subtracting etc. It doesn't really matter what type of maths you're doing - as long as you're sufficient with a calculator... Accounting should be easy enough.

I was in the same position as you last year. As EPL.11.4ever has said, it is definitely achievable. However, you do require large amounts of practice and concentration if you want to do well. In my opinion, you do not need any Units 1&2 at all as everything is re-taught.

As long as you pay the subject respect by practicing and concentrating, you can do well. It is not a hard subject

I'd agree with that. As far as I know, the basis and foundations of Units 1/2 Accounting are gone over in Units 3/4. There are two main bits to Accounting; theory and practical.

If you break it down, Accounting is a subject which is easy to do well in.

The practical is quite easy as you'll do the same exercises over and over again, so you'll get it eventually even if you're unsure at first. The practical is easy in that sense. The questions in textbook and exams etc are pretty much the same, they are just worded differently in some cases. You can learn some "textbook" responses to certain theory questions which can gain you full marks.

Practice is essiential if you want to do well in Accounting, this can be done through exercises in the textbook and practice exam papers. The more you practice, the better you'll get at Accounting.

Definitely do accounting, you have a much better chance of getting a 40 in accounting compared to other subjects like business or further.

Agreed. Accounting is mostly straight-forward and there are no real surprises - the questions are repetitive and once you do enough of it, you know what to expect. Whereas in other subjects, you can't study for certain things.

The VCAA see Accounting as a rather easy subject, that is why there is hardly any scaling given - 1 or 2 max, depending on your study score. Though the scaling should no deter you, getting 40+ in Accounting is easier than getting 40 in a LOTE subject (for example).

Obviously the harder the subject, the more scaling there is. (i.e. Latin, Hebrew.)
