Anyone prepared for it?

Narrative - I still need to get a clear understanding of it.
Social Values - think I'm pretty set on this. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert ftw. gays, sensitive topic.
Media Influence - could do with some more improvements - for the exam I think I might pick two different communication theories rather than bullet/uses&gratifications to 'interest' the examiner. I really really think there might be something on media censorship this year.

hahaha Mao you may as well just say hey shilayli. Cos we're basically the only two on here who do media.

I'm feeling alright about the exam. I like how it's last cos then we have ages to prepare for it. It's annoying cos I have to watch all these films and tv shows again. It can get so boring. I'm most worried about story elements in narrative and regulation in media influence.. What films are you doing for narrative btw? At least you're lucky you're doing a film for social values we're analysing a whole series... 26 episodes to watch. fml.

I'm not sure about choosing theories to interest the examiner. They usually say just stick to the tried and tested answers otherwise you could be playing with fire so to speak. The main four at the lecture they said to use were: bullet, uses and grat, reinforcement, and agenda setting function. + post-modernism if you're really into it haha.

Have you done any practice exams yet? If so. How did you go on them?

Finally had my media influence sac last week. God my teacher was so goddam slow.

How have your sac scores been btw, if you don't mind me asking :)

Hahaha, indeed shilayli. yeah, i dont think anyone apart from us goes on here.

We're doing Run Lola Run & Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for narrative - ESSM is particularly difficult for me. -sigh- I got 3 days in between my history revolutions exam and media. I think i'll do alright.

We've done one trial exam under exam conditions at school, boy did I do bad. He modified the exam so it was out of 55 and I got 41, losing most of my marks in section A- worth 15 marks. Social Values & Media Influence I lost very few marks together in total - pretty set on those sections. But I'm worried about section C being extended response this year.. shit.

My SAC scores have been B+ standard. I don't remember the scores because the teacher kept it and told us once. But it was B+ standard for sure. :P How are you? Mr.#1 Sac Ranking? LOL
26 episodes? LOL what bloody text are you studying?

True, I think I'll apply the KISS - keep it simple, stupid methodology in my answers. Bullet/Uses&Grat it is.

Yer eternal sunshine would be tricky. It seems really complex, but at least it's good to watch!

haha Well I've got #1 ranking with like 4 other people cos they're all really good at media and don't seem to drop any marks haha. So it will all come down to the exam for who gets the top result I guess.

It's bewitched season 1. Argh... It's painful to watch. But it's pretty easy to study there's like 5 different social values in every episode so there's heaps to choose from. One girl at the lecture was like "my film only has like 3 social values in the whole thing!".. That would suck haha.

I've only done 1 practice exam so far which was the insight one which we had to do at school, so I'm gonna have a go at a vcaa one in a couple of days..

I'm also studying media! Studying Bewitched too for social values and doing Annie Hall (worst movie in history) and Eternal Sunshine for my narrative :)

Yeah, at least in Bewitched every episode the husband's like 'go make me breakfast' so it's pretty easy to pick up all of the social values of the time :) Yeah eternal sunshine was one of my favourites before having to study it. So many different perspectives, caused some arguments in my class! Which section are you most unprepared for in the exam?

Ummm... a little bit for each I reckon. A few small things I need to clarify in each area of study..

Stepford wives would be interesting, at least it's just ONE movie - unlike an entire series :(  haha. Old movie or new one? Guessing old because the new one was panned by the critics haha.

Is american beauty any good? I was planning on watching it after exams just because it's in so many media textbooks it must be somewhat of quality haha.

stepford wives is very easy to study values for.
an emerging value - women wanting to seek independence and equal treatment with men.
a dominant value - women should be chilling in the kitchen and what not.

yeah it's the old one, the whole concept of the film is pretty weird. you'll understand if you plan to watch it.

why would your teacher assign a series? wouldn't that be way too time consuming?

American Beauty is freakin' quality.
great movie to watch and study, kevin spacey is one of my fav actors.
i won't give any details of the plot cos i'd most likely drop some spoilers :|

what movies are you doing for narrative?
Psycho and Scream. They're really great. Scream basically has every single production element in the opening scene so I use that scene for basically every response haha. They're really good for contrasting and comparing questions because obviously it's the same genre.

Yer assigning a series seems a bit stupid. But there's like 30 social values to choose from. So for those longer Social Values questions it comes in handy, basically each episode of Bewitched has at least 2 different social values. We only studied 10 episodes. I'm only using about 5 different ones for the exam though. So yes, it's time-consuming but it helps because you have a larger variety of social values to write about so I like it haha.

American Beauty will definitely be up high on my list of movies to watch after the exam then haha. I've already seen stepford wives the newer one, so I get the concept but it was pretty crap. Nicole Kidman is really not the best actress... haha On the other hand, Drew Barrymore in Scream is so wicked. Whenever there's acting as an option for discussing a production element I'll always refer to Drew haha.

Cannot wait till this is over. I'm positive there will be a censorship question purely because: 1. i dont think they've ever asked it, and 2. many will forget to study for it.

Was a bit annoyed that my teacher decided to mark my praccy so harshly, got 38 out of 61 and was docked marks for petty things which is frustrating.

Regardless, i'll have 6 days between aus history and media so i should get a good score. good luck guys
