Can I Do Specialist Without GMA?

So hey, I'm in year 12 next year. I've already selected English, Music, Legal Studies, Philosophy and Methods. I'm now considering changing that to English, Music, and three maths (further, methods, specialist) because I like maths, and I think this would make things easier on me. I'm doing year 11 methods currently, recently got four consecutive A+s, and I'll be honest, I don't really try that hard. My methods teacher thinks I can get 45 raw for methods next year, which kind of makes me wonder whether I should play to my strengths and just do three maths.

So what I want to know firstly is, is spesh even possible without GMA? I'm willing to do the entire course during summer holidays just to give myself a chance. And I know it might seem strange that I'd rather do that than legal and philosophy, but that's just how my mind works. =P

I don't know if this still applies, but it used to be 3 maths cannot be included in your top 4... so doing well in all 3 is a bad idea and you will be better off neglecting one of them.

And yeah, a guy in my spesh class didn't do GMA and he's doing better than a chunk of the class, so definitely possible.
If you really like maths, and you also want a sexy atar, do muep.

In addition, according to the VCAA Mathematics Study Design "In a given year, a student may not enrol in both Further Mathematics Units 3 and 4 and Specialist Mathematics Units 3 and 4."

And yes - you can do Specialist without GMA - you won't need it.

Err what? My friend is doing specialist and further in year 12 this year.

If any I will neglect Further, although my aim is to do well in all five subs.

Many schools actually don't offer GMA. You'll be fine. But definitely have a look over the textbook.

Ahhh, I've not heard that before. Also, I know people who ARE doing both this year...

Don't tell me that just came into effect in time for my year 12.

Ah ok, no worries.

I don't know what the general consensus here is so I'll ask -- how much harder is 3-4 methods than 1-2 methods? And how does spesh compare to methods? I've heard lots of different things from friends so I thought I'd ask here as well.

Yeah lol. I'm doing spesh/further.

However, if you haven't done GMA expect the school to whinge a LOT. The process I had to go through was ridiculous. Had to get permission from VCAA, like, a written consent.

Spesh == methods with a bit of venom.

Methods 3-4 very similar to 1-2 (*edit* from what i've read of the 1-2 text, i didn't do 1-2).

2010: chem 47, further 48, Spesh 49 fml seriously and other yr 11 subs.

No. Not azn.

Methods 3+4 is easier than 1+2. This is mainly because almost all of the new content was introduced in year 11, so year 12 is just an extension of that.

Spesh is a bit trickier than methods - the course is quite a lot broader, and the working is more intensive and hence easier to stuff up.

But, that being said, I wouldn't say that VCE maths is overly difficult.

I second matty, i found 3/4 methods easier than 1/2. Spesh however steps up a notch and you will inevitably encounter questions that will give you a headache.
