BUT, you still have to consider your target audience,

Which, in reality, is the examiner; hence, choose a form and vernacular that is appropriate and will show the examiners that you are good at writing.

Not really. Your target audience is whatever you've designated. The examiner will mark accordingly. However of course, your sophistication with language and whatnot obviously shines through more if you address the UN than if you address the Frankston footy club.
i do think the examiners take into consideration who it is you are pretending to be etc.

This was a dot point from the final essay in last years assessors report

"The language is not sophisticated but is consistent with the story itself."

Yeah, that was what I meant. But your chosen audience will never see it, only the examiners will - so in reality the only audience your piece receives is the examiners. Hence you should write so that they can reward you maximally.

Not really.... what if you wrote a speech?

It would usually be performed/written for a listening audience, but as it is only in written form in the exam, I presume examiners would mark on the basis of an assumed audience.

I think that's he's trying to say. We've all got the same idea; just misinterpreting one another :P

Everybody, when feeling down and depressed about failing...

read the last essay on this report, it will make you happy as it is so ...uhh... basic to be worthy of a "high scoring response."

Such utter trash! :D

It's so simple and superficial... by 'high-scoring' I assume it got an 8/10?

yes, AN EIGHT MINIMUM!!!!

i dont see why they would put a 7 up there.. that isnt even high scoring.

Even for a 7 you would think thats generous.
This gives me hope for my creative ;)

i know, they bag the shit out of it

saying its clichéd, basic etc... but is "nonetheless successful."

wtf how so?

Also, the piece dives into the prompt immediately as if it is a topic in text response

Hmm...I'm thinking that it'd be easier to avoice cliches in formal essays, as opposed to a feature article-type response. Indecision sucks!

it isnt that hard to just avert from them completely

im taking a different approach hopefully the examiner has never read before;

im an ex-reporter from a major media outlet who feels "morally obliged" to report on the true nature of conflict due to the medias tendency to be insensitive etc (dw it aint cheesy)
and then i fly to afgahnistan (related to my text) and i explore the prompts implications.

i made it sound like ass then but you get the gist of it.
