because he had a firm stance in what he believed was right
it was his moral principles that helped him ave this strong stance
he is the same throughout the play

cromwell,rich and the common man change throughout the play

rich: perjuring himself under oath, his goal is to seek ambition and status
cromwell: manipulates rich to lie under oath, he needs to get the job done
common man: plays multiple roles, his motto is to survive in a corrupted society

You can also say that the other characters are the men for all seasons, as they are able to adjust their principles (compromise) to be able to take control of any situation.

yeah you could say that common man and rich are both men for all seasons. able to take advantage of the times. adapt etc.
