P value
« on: October 26, 2010, 07:28:52 pm »
if the p value is bigger than or equal to 0.05 does this mean that results were likely due to the IV AND additional factors such as chance
or does it mean that the results were likely due to additional factors such as chance alone and unlikely due to the IV.

Cheers

p-value of 0.06 for instance means that 6 out of every 100 trials (or 6%) were due to chance and not due to the IV.
whilst that means 94 out of 100 trials (or 94%) still were due to the IV, according to australia's rules this is too many due to chance so the research is not statistically significant.
