Sorry to ask you guys now, but my careers coordinator is on absent leave and i really really really really need some opinions atm!
(Parents are going with do whatever you like theory, which isn't that helpful to be honest)

Um i was wondering whats better, to have two degrees (that is having a double degree) or having one degree and then a masters?

- Its just a bugging thought i need to solve so i can find some motivation to studyyyy :/

i have no idea in regards to your first question

but RMIT would be pretty far below melb. Melb is ranked as the 36th best uni in the WORLD which is a decent effort, and it definitely impresses employers. Also, RMIT makes me angry when i look at it.... it's like 100 buildings randomly scattered in the city.. and melb looks like hogwarts lol

honestly, what degrees you have won't matter once you have your first job... after that, employers generally look at your past employment.

have you thought about what area/course you were thinking of?
i think a double degree in two completely different areas could be nice --> breath of skill
e.g. biomed/law, anything/law, anything/business
on the other hand, masters sounds nice too
hmmmm
it really depends on what area you want to study at uni.

ALso whats better RMIT or MELB UNI? I know Melb UNi has a good rep and all but does that mean RMIT is that far below it ?

depends on the course. for architecture, RMIT is generally considered to be the top uni in victoria. and i think melb uni is well-known for its humanities?

also melbourne uni has the melbourne model, which people either hate or love.

I was thinking of doing Food Science at either Unis, but since RMIT offers  Bachelor of Science(Food Technology and Nutrition) which is already specific and Melb well offers the general Bachelor of Science under the new model, and RMIT offers work experience within their course and Melb doesn't, but it has a better rep :/... Just dont know where to undertake the Bachelor of Science.

It's hard to make blanket statements that this uni is 100% better than the other uni.

Yes, Overall melbourne is better but some of the programs RMIT offers, melbourne doesn't simply offer or sometimes they're better than the melbourne ones.... (the software engineering course there is pretty well respected i hear)

Two degrees/ One degree + Masters are generally equivalent, in my opinion anyway...

Well depends what they're in but yeah...

In this case id say you should probably go the RMIT route for a course of this nature

If food technology is what i think it is and processing food on a commercial scale and things like that... if you want to be a nutritionist though... id go to melbourne

I visited the rmit food tech place and never left (they kept giving me free icecream...it was awesome)

I think in this case, RMIT is better, its more practical and hands on approach really they have there.

Not sure if they offer this kind of food tech subject at melbourne?

I think you'd be able to get a job fine in this area with a bachelors, that said masters always does help not sure how good it will be for this kind of thing though

(Again id like to say this is all my opinion and based on what i know, i'm telling you this in good faith and with the best intentions but i cant be sure im 100% right and accurate so you might want to look into it yourself before making a big decision like this, you could always email the universities in question, with some questions to ask if you like, they have usually been pretty helpful to me (they want your money as much as you want to go there) )

Yeah the icecream was pretty awesome, the bannana icecream was flavored with real banana instead of chemicals....

Anyway, me personally i dont like RMIT, i feel kind of cramped there and it just seems like a random smattering of buildings but i guess thats because it was the first time i saw it. You could always just show up and walk around, no one will stop you.... they wont know if your a student or not anyway, even if someone notices not like theyll care...

Where was i? Oh, prestiege thing....

Yeah that seriously isnt anything to worry about, the prestiege may help you get your first job or two, after that its all about your experience and where you used to work, compared to your uni degree. So, after a couple years working, no one will care either way.

Also, if you're not sure you want to do food tech, melbourne uni is a good way to go. There are so many options you can have coming out of melbourne uni science, post-grad wise. I'm not 100% on what i want to do and im going to take melbourne uni science probably. You dont have to pick majors untill the second year (and even then you pick two majors...) its just in the third year you really decide what you want. I think its a pretty good program but it isnt for everyone.

It is more prestigious but employers would also value the practical experience you get from RMIT (and im sure you would too).

"In the third year, you will undertake a major science project where you may be linked to an industry organisation. Typical projects include working in the research and development department of food companies to formulate and promote new food products or in the consumer nutrition affairs part of a company where you may be involved in a labelling project that promotes a product’s nutrition aspects."

Thats what the site says anyway.

Might want to have a look around here for melbourne: http://www.foodscience.unimelb.edu.au/

Doesn't seem to me as focused on big industrial kind of things as rmit is though - http://www.foodscience.unimelb.edu.au/study_dates.html just by looking at the subjects *shrugs* but i could be totally wrong so really check it out for yourself...

School still goes for a while, im sure she'll be back sometime :D

Best of luck

:) Thanks !
Yeah i was biased about going to Melb Uni since forever, and all the sudden i realize theres the RMIT course which provided with so much more. I think I might leave my enter to decide where i would go, since i need a decent 90 to go to Melbourne Uni for science anyways (which at this rate is a 60% of achieving, stupid spesh bummed me out) :/ Ahh the choices. And yeah i totally agree, half the time I dont even know where RMIT is, despite it being in the city, like i would walk around some part of the city and there would be an "RMIT" building right there? o.o Melb uni is so pretty but i really dont like how it only emphasis  on the "research" side of things then a bit of practical, since i asked those in charge of melb uni food science on the open day and they told me "if u want work experience you have to find them your self during the summer holidays as the course it self does not have it" - Bummer. Maybe doing my masters there (hopefully, which i sorta need to get a more decent job) is a better idea since its "researching"? Who knows, the enter would decide my faith (but theres such a high chance of me going rmit since its only 60). LOL, and by the way im from the west side too, im too qualified to deal ;] - Goodluck with your exams, and the ice cream you ate sounds like the ones from COLD ROCK :D

Yeah more places offered, but still, I don't know. The enter will determine everything :)
