Hey guys/girls,
Just wondering what the general consensus was like in the 2010 orals. Generally what kind of detailed study did you do, how you did, any curve balls that the examiners threw?
Would like to hear how it went for everyone ( ^_^ )
Good luck for the written~

Italian oral, did it on immigration to Italy.

not bad, no unexpected questions (though maybe i wasn't extended because I wasn't excelling!) but they were FUCKING SCARY!!!! So nervous. Examiners were nice though :)

I'm wondering as to how hard they mark, and how the state go on average in orals.

generally they mark alright. for jap it was out of 200. i ended up getting 160/200 according to the written statement after results. for me, that is really good; i was in my schools first vce jap class. generally my class did really bad, raw scores ranged from 18-28 with me at 39 haha. just make sure you try reeeal hard for the written and you will do great ^_^

Chinese oral; my detailed was on Chinese porcelain :]

Pretty good, they asked quite a few challenging questions and interrupted me quite a bit; hoping for nigh full marks as I can also speak Chinese very fluently so that would be a bonus :D

Aiming for a ~45 raw SS for Chinese!

Yeah I was born in HK but moved here to Aus when I was 2. So technically I'm a fob but not really o_O LOL

Thanks btw!! :D

Hopefully I can get a good raw score which will grant me an enormous advantage for next year.

Hebrew Oral - detailed study was the development of Israeli music.
Was definitely over-prepared :) The trick is, to engage the examiners rather than regurgitate rote-learned answers.
Capture their attention and develop a free-flowing conversation for section 1, and the detailed study is just a breeze . . . =]

French Oral - everyone in my class did real well and I was all set to do the same but I had badluck and got examiners who would not let me speak... they cut me off after about two sentences. I would understand if i was rambling on and on but they did not let me develop any answers so i do not know how i will fulfill all the critera to the level i wanted now. Oh well i'll just have to ace the written.
