People who are very experienced and skilled in a field are not necessarily the best tutors for a subject, particularly VCE!  For instance, in the case of VCE Physics, a lot of the material is very simplified and working out what is relevant can be a hard job.  appianway sounds like a wonderful tutor, obviously having knowledge beyond what is required for the course, but clearly being able to relate it to the current high school course with results!

To MBBS - your father sounds like he would be a very apt physics tutor, but maybe if you want to plug his credentials it would be better to give him his own thread to flesh it out thoroughly and let people decide.  Some people might take it the wrong way by intruding on someone else's ad.
2008: Mathematical Methods (49)
2009: English (50), Specialist Mathematics (47), Chemistry (49), Physics (49), Latin (44)

Now offering summer tuition: http://vcenotes.com/forum/index.php/topic,34427.0.html

There's a right way for people to interpret what he posted?

Just thought I'd quickly bump this. I've started classes for the holidays and I still have room, but I'm trying to organise part time work at the moment, so if you're interested, let me know as soon as possible :)

I didn't really stress in the earlier part of the ad that I can tutor English Language - in terms of scores, I obtained a raw of 45 last year (which was scaled to 47). I did very well on my SACs in a highly competitive cohort (message me for details) and I have a working knowledge of French (I've previously won prizes in the Alliance Francaise Berthe Mouchette Competition, and I hold my DELF B2) so I can make comparisons between languages. I can help with written expression - I've won writing prizes on local and national levels, and I've written for a lot of publications. In a quantitative sense, I scored 49 for the written expression section of the GAT and I've scored well within the top 1% for those ICAS Writing Competitions and the SAT. I have a lot of sample essays and general resources for English Language, and I'd like to think my knowledge extends beyond the scope of the course. As with the physics tuition, just message me for more information.

Endorsed.

You will not find anyone better than appianway at Physics, you can not go wrong with her.

Father studied physics for 6 years at university. Received top of the class marks in 90% of work/exams. Had much of his work published in science magazines.
+ General physics enthusiast. Many many books on the shelves.

Assumption- The mother of all fuck-ups. :P

Appianway does sound hugely impressive though...
I mean she competed at the Physics Olympiad ffs.

Hey appianway, I'm interested! :D How much are you charging? Physics is probably going to be my 7th subject, so I'm not planning on paying much...and I'm probably just looking at 1 hour, ever 2nd week or maybe less frequently. Viable?
I won the GAT: 49/50/50.

Bumping Appianway's thread.

Had a lesson with her the other day..

What can i say!

She definitely knows her stuff and she is able to explain things clearly. She is well prepared and has a good source of questions from a variety of difficulty levels. If you're considering getting a physics tutor over summer, appianway is the way to go :)

I'm going to be going to ANU for university, so I can't do weekly 1 on 1 tuition. However, I am running a lot of holiday classes for students (focusing on specific topics).

Thought I'd bump this and say that I'll be back in Melbourne from late June to late August (which is when I head off to Yale) and would be willing to cover the unit 4 course with students in this time.
