I'm not doing Further but I'm finding specialist easier than year 11 advanced general maths.

That could be because you covered a lot of the concepts in Year 11 advanced for the first time whilst Specialist is serving as just a revision and slight extension on previous knowledge, depending on how your year 11 course was structured. I know I'm experiencing that with Specialist this year.

I found the first few chapters of Specialist hard (that's cause I had a shit teacher for GMS) I really do struggle with doing vector questions (especially proofs), which in our course was done towards the end of the year.

I find further to be really easy too.. but I am a bit worried that it may be my lowest score.. the competiveness in the subject is intense and I believe you need close to 90% on everything to be a chance for a 40+

No not really.

Your exam is the key.

Our school gives hard SAC's from what I heard...

(as have been said many times already)

the actual SAC scores doesn't matter, its your ranking that counts.
this ranking corresponds to an external score calculated based on the exam score of your cohort, and the average SAC performance of the entire state (taking into consideration difficulty of SACs)

to get a high score, you just need to rank well, and score high on the exam
doing well on SACs is not necessary, but if you have competition in your class, you will want to do well to achieve/maintain the good ranking.

Just to make sure Mao's. post doesnt confuse anyone, i would like to point out that sac marks do matter. However, it is your sac ranking that is sent to VCAA. Without a good sac mark, you wont be able to achieve a good ranking- hence sac MARKS do matter.

not without reference to the cohorts performance. otherwise it will not make any sense.

On one of the SACs last year for MM, I scored 86%. if I had a cry about it, people will say "aww, you just need to ace the exam and do better the next few SACs."
except, I was ranking far ahead, with the next person less than half my score.
even though the 86% would correspond to a B+

in fact, even if I had gotten 50% it still wouldnt matter, because i'm still ranked first.

however, in a less skewed cohort, things will more normalised.

the moral is: you want to do as well as you can, in front of everyone else. how much that takes depends on who your competitors are.
