Mathematical Methods 3/4 - 2011

As the title reads.

I was wondering if people could vote for which one they think is the best out of the above for specifically Math Methods 3/4, that would be of great help - as I'm not sure which to go to next year (Year 12).

Also if you vote "Other" could you please specify.

I reckon Other 

Study and get ahead by yourself in your own time such as the summer holidays if your extra keen. When you have trouble with certain contexts then you can get a tutor from here or ask questions in this forum.

I did TSFX this year and it wasn't all what it was cracked up to be. The notes and stuff they gave were handy and I did like some of the exam "tricks" they taught, but it's not the greatest and over-priced IMO. Plus I guess it depends how you prefer to learn, like would you rather one-on-one time with a tutor or is a class setting more for you.

If i could relive year 12 methods... I would do Jacks and have a private tutor such as derrick ha. I wouldnt do jacks if i had a good school teacher though

Personally I think that tuition for maths/sciences is ... useless. But that's just because I can get the same thing from reading the textbook and wiki/whatever.

However, if you are in need of help, then you could post questions here if you can articulate them sufficiently. If you can't explain what you don't know, then you'll need a private tutor because it's unlikely that you'll pick the concepts up in another classroom environment. Any decent tutor should do. Just find a good one and use them till you don't need help anymore. After that, you can ask the occasional question on here.

It really depends on your level. Jacks is good at explaining stuff simply if you are struggling.

But if you are relatively confident, i reckon the best thing is to study yourself and just ask teachers, friends, classmates, VN any questions you might have.

Or alternatively you can get a private tutor if you believe that's your most effective way to learn.

I didn't use a tutor for Methods 3/4. But Dr. He would have helped =D.

You're smart enough not to need a tutor. Just work really hard over the holidays and aim to finish the course asap (lol). If you finish by mid-year, you have ages to get your exam technique refined.

I dont know how derrick ha or dr.he or whoever does it... if its in a group dont do it... its a terrible idea...

I was in a group situation for a year and a half.

I learnt almost nothing and managed to blow a lot of time and money.

i was paying $50 for 2 hours a week with him. I got almost nowhere.

He eventually threw me out cause i missed a string of about 4 classes cause i had somethings going on.

I got tutoring one on one, for the same price $50 for 2 hours.

I learnt so much more.


Now that i think about it, in the group situation out of the two hours... max he'd spend 30 minutes more or less talking to me... one on one... i get the full two hours with my tutor.

So what i'd do in 4*30 min lessons, i got done in 1*2 hour lessons.

You feel more confident to ask questions and such.

I really recommend 1 on 1 if you're in the market for a tutor (costs allowing).

I don't think going to a "good" school guarantees anything - that's my way of thinking about it at least. Not everyone going to my school succeeds, a few each year don't even end up going to uni at all. I just hoping to utilise everything that is available to me, so that next year I do the best I possibly can.

If you can do the homework adequately, that's all that is really required. The people who don't do well most probably don't do the work or as much of it. First of all assess where you are before wasting any money.

Even if you're not doing heaps of work, you're bound to pick up lots of things during tuition or if you just dont understand things in class and can't follow (like me.. my teacher was terrible)...

Anyway, i reckon if you have the money mate, a tutor certainly cant make your score any lower.

It's only up from there.
