Sooo what do you reckon the grade distributions gonna be like?
It should totz scale up like 7-9.

On that matter, how does the scaling actually work? The only subject that looks to change year by year is spesh

i thought scaling increased with a larger standard deviation

scaling depends on the caliber of the people doing the subject (from vcaa's website, though paraphrasing) - i figure just because there's a correlation between good students and hard subjects.
a subject scales up more if more people who get high atars do it
2009: Biology - 43 raw
2010: UMAT 63, 96th%ile
SS aims (raw): English - 48 (bit iffy now. 45 maybe) | Methods CAS (still good) - 50 | Spec - 47 (probably not now, maybe 43-44) | Chem - 43 | Economics - 44 (will be happy with 42 now)

ATAR: 99.7+

2011: MBBS Monash?

Bob: correct, the higher ATAR people score from those subjects, the higher the boost is. Thats why Specialist is boosted so high, people who WANT to do the subject, do well in it (and also the difficulty lol)

Scaling is NOT based on students ATARs. Rather it is dependent on the competition within a subject. This is measured by the comparison of students raw SS in the subject and their raw SS in their other subjects. If on average people score higher in the subject than their others, then it indicates that there is lower competition in the subject and hence it is scaled down. Opposite for subjects which scale up.

it can't

specialist scaling is moderated according to math methods

as in vcaa, make sure the scaling is higher for spesh than methods, coz of difficulty of subject

this is all after the statistical crap the pull
