How many marks out of 4 do you think I would get?

For the volume question, I differentiated it correctly, equated it to 0, got the wrong value for x due to a silly error, and used this value to find the volume of the pyramid.

how many marks out of 4 would i get?

SHOULD BE:

1. For differentiating correctly.
2. For equating derivative to 0.

But who knows about VCAA.

I did the same exact thing as you :)

did you have to differentiate that by hand?

-I think differentiating
-Equating to zero for maximum
-finding x
-subbing back into volume for answer

the real question is, would you get consequentials for the next question if your volume was incorrect?

I differentiated using the calculator, and I asked about consequential's in another thread. It would be harsh if they didn't give them out, because then one minor error robs you of a whole 4 marks, rather than just 2.

Robs you of 6 actually :( The next question needed the volume from the last question didn't it ?

Well, I was being optimistic and hoping I would get the first 2 marks of the working out the volume question. ...
