Hey guys

The change issue which our school did was sustainability (which is part of ethics and social responsibility). Can anyone provide a definition of it in terms of what it means to a business and why organisations place a great emphasis on it these days?

I'm guessing its the actions made by the business that can prevent affects to future generations' non-materialistic living standards (i.e. happiness, wealth, health) in an adverse way (i.e. pollution, carbon emission, waste etc). This may be strategies to reduce wastage including stock management, environmental sustainability, allocating resources into R&D for renewable sources of energy.

As part of a holistic approach to management, the organisation may consider 'triple bottom line' as a strategy to reduce negative externalities, poor social implications yet still maintain a decent profit.

You may consider BP and their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico as an act of poor ethics (if examiners allow discussion in both directions)
