try and set up a deal with a big name tutor like Jack or derrik ha. Sell ur book thru them. Coz if jack says to his students to buy it to get 40+... Mate they will. U sell thru him and give some profit to him. Then word will get out about ur book thru students. Imo thats the best way to market ur book. Good luck!

I think Ha and Jack have their own stuff they want to sell. I know Ha does, but maybe Jack might be interested because as far as I know he deals exclusively in notes. Might be able to work out a deal with him. Thanks for the idea :)

Yeah I was thinking more Jack, since he seems to be more interested in $$$!. (50+ students at once :S)
Im under the impression you get Jacks notes if you pay to get into the tuition. So he's not really selling his notes as such.
I think he wouldn't mind, considering he's not doing any extra work and still getting a cut of the profit.

Oh and if he doesnt cough up, then dob him in to the ATO. (I doubt he pays full taxes)

I would not buy it because I'm not an idiot.

You can't right a book telling people how THEY can do well. If they don't know how THEY can do well, they're a lost cause.

I'm a bit puzzled by this aggression. Why can't I write a book telling people how they can do well? Why can't I detail a thought process which I know works, which I have worked on in my own Mathematics education as well as through tutoring students over the years?

I think it's exceedingly arrogant to claim that people seeking help in a subject are a lost cause. Poor form.

I think the person means that, the way in which individuals excel in their studies is achieved uniquely. There's no magical formula for success that works for everyone. Your ways won't always work for everyone because they may learn in a different way. =/
But it's VCE, there are people that will buy anything because as Kyzoo has said they believe "MORE WORK = BETTER RESULTS".
Although i do think your proposed book would be a much better resource than those currently available. :)

That's like saying checkpoints is a book for everyone, it will help revise and ultimately get a better score in the exam. Wrong, only some people enjoy the book (not me) and some people will benefit from it. It doesn't mean if you market a good then that good will be beneficial for everyone.

I think this is a great idea, and I can't believe companies haven't thought of this yet :P Great profit margin!

I think anything over $35 in its first year is a bit high. Sounds like a good idea, maybe start off with a profit margin of like $10 or something, and if it sells well in its first year and helps people, improve it for the next design and then use the testimonials to justify a price increase. If it gets to the 40+ mark its really just another text book for many people.

Alternatively, you charge only 10-15 but have it as a download for people instead and they print it off themselves or just use online - of course there are issues with file sharing then.

Overall 28-35 seems best.

Good luck and if you are going to make it, please do so before school starts so that it can be used throughout the year!

Hmm, what you say about charging less in its first year sounds like some sound advice. I probably should focus on building the brand name first, and then the profits later. There's no set price for it yet, I've only just begun writing it so this will be decided once and for all next year. In terms of having downloads of it, it's just too easy for people to rip it out of any copyright protection and just send it around to their mates, so it really is going to have to be hard copy only. And it's that necessity of being hard copy only that's going to drive the price up. I honestly tell you, if I could make it downloadable but unhackable I'd sell them $15 a pop by download. But it's just too easy for people to pirate it, unfortunately and in such a niche market, piracy would kill the economic viability of the project. :(

Yeah that's an issue.

Another way of getting the brand name up is to give out a couple of teasers on this forum.
