Exam 1 Log/modulus fiasco - RESOLVED

I just had a chat with my Spec teacher - who also is a VCAA examiner - and he just finished marking 400+ Exam 1s. I know there was some confusion earlier about question 7 (whether to Mod or not the Mod the log function). It turns out that if you left it 'modded' - you will not lose any marks.
On a side note, he mentioned that the majority of students forgot to sub in initial conditions for that question to arrive at the final answer of

lol that's what i have been saying all along, VCAA may be pedantic bastards, but if they're marking spesh papers, they still have a bit of mathematician in them to realise this triviality...

Apparently a lot of discussion goes back and both between the markers before they begin marking exams. My accounting teacher (also a VCAA examiner), said the marking scheme is as follows:
1) Markers sit the VCAA exams under exam conditions
2) They argue back and forth between themselves as to the correct answers
3) They develop a *rough* marking guideline (for an idea of the answers)
4) They take a large batch of exams home and start marking

I never knew they actually sat the exam themselves. I wonder what the most marks lost by a marker is. :P

That would be an effective method of determining the contentious questions.

That's good for you that you get the mark.. but argh, that means almost everyone gains a mark on me. I need as much breathing room as I can get through exam 1. Made my own mistakes elsewhere >.<

My accounting teacher once lost 2 marks on a mid year exam - I think that's his worst performance :). I'm assuming my Spec teacher would be cruising at an average of 40/40 and 90/90 for every single exam.

But ye - it's VCAA policy for all markers to sit the exams beforehand. It means that
1) They're in your shoes
2) They understand the material subject-wise

But ye, I feel your pain. I **** up the last question on Exam one by leaving it in incorrect form. Hopefully my Exam 2 mark will save me. . .

Ooh i didn't know they took the exams home for maths. I know that for english they go to some "vcaa building" and sit in a room and mark a basket and don't take any outside the place (possibly so that they don't lose it and then vcaa are screwed). but then again my teacher said she started marking the english exams 4 days after we sat it and they obviously wouldnt make assessors sit through 3 hours doing an english exam, and doubt they discussed it since its english but rather just went straight into marking.

Aahhh so that's how they come about the "Most STUDENTS didn't do this" for the Examiners Report.
It's actually the assessors who found it difficult haha

Why not make them suffer through those 3 hours of torture? :P
