Haven't done Further 1&2

So have I missed out a lot for units 1&2? I'm not sure whether to go straight into learning unit 3 over these holidays or to review 1+2. How much does 3+4 build up on 1+2?

lol it should be easy enough to pick up without prior experience if you are half decent at maths.

most of the stuff you learn is pretty much stock standard yr 9-10 maths depending on the modules you do.
there will be new topics that you not have covered before, but it is fairly is easy to understand.

Just go straight to 3+4.

In fact, I don't think you even need to revise it during the holiday..
It's all over now..

Yes, this other thing I forgot to ask, what are modules exactly? They seem similar to how every school picks a different theme for english.

There is the 'Core' which is compulsory.
THen you choose 3 modules out of:
1. Number patterns
2. Geometry and trig
3. Graphs and relations
4. Business maths
5. Networks
6. Matrices

i didnt do units 1/2 further, and went striaght on to 3/4

the math we do is literally pre-year 10 maths, so one could have not done maths in years and just jump into it.
so dont bother with any revision, start learning the course - i'm sure you can get the entire year done in a few days.
i didnt attend classes for 2 of my modules and self-taught one in a couple of hours, and the other (matrices) didn't really need to do anything from methods.

you will be fine.

A lot of the people at my school who did Further in year 12 didn't do Units 1 and 2, so it's definitely easy enough to pick up.

you're doing chem and not methods? :P wow, proves that you don't needa be good at methods to be good at further! yay!
anyway, i dropped methods for further next year, and I can tell you, by looking at the past exams... you need to be pretty retarded to not understand further :) so nah, you don't need 1&2;

I dropped methods too, which is why I'm picking up Further 3+4. I absolutely love chemistry. The numbers actually mean something to me :)

LOL ... *reminisces to the year 10 chem exam* ... nah, the numbers didn't mean anything to me xD
but cool, did you drop methods because you weren't good at it or? im dropping it purely because im doing an art subject + psych+legal which leaves minimal time for methods... and I know I'm gonna do shit in it even if i tried :|

I dropped it because I slacked off at the start of the year, and by the time I actually realized you had to do work, it was already too late. I was also averaging C's to D's on my sacs/tests, I didn't have a clue of what the numbers represented and I absolutely hate not understanding things and getting below an A..

A lesson to remember I guess..I would've really liked to learn calculus. I was going to drop in my methods class to learn the calculus topic even though I had already dropped it, but I opted instead to work on legal studies during that time.

I ended up dropping unit 2 methods, so I've been in a semester without math  :D

On another note, should I get any supplement books for further? Checkpoints, etc? What do you guys recommend?

For me, I'm probably gonna get checkpoints and that's it. Own notes would be best to compile over the ear, then finish off the year by doing a ton of practice exams, aiming to make minimal mistakes! Yah, that's what I plan to do neway
