Interestingly my school offers Biology 3/4 (science subject) at the Year 11 level (without doing Biology 1/2 previously) - which isn't probably the case with other schools.

That's because unit 2 is irrelevant to 3+4 and the relevance of unit 1 is covered again in unit 3 in two weeks.

Subjects like Chemistry, Methods, Physics and so on IMO do require a solid foundation. Subjects like Accounting, Legal don't necessarily require Units 1/2.

No, Biology 3/4 is one of the easiest subjects to pick up without 1/2.

I am glad I didn't do Bio 1/2.  Apparently you have to study ecosystems and the environment... *cringes*

my school wouldn't let me pick up accounting 3/4 next yr without 1/2 so thats why im doing spesh....
it's weird how different schools allow students to do some subjects without a 1/2 but others dont.

Yeah... I'm doing Bio 1/2 currently. It's not enjoyable for me anyhow. =\ Hence, I'm dropping it.

I didn't do Accounting 1/2, I just did 3/4 - hence, an example of what you mean.

Well, that's what I did this year.

Totally neglected my 1&2's and put all my time towards my 3&4's.

I probably even failed my 1&2 exams but I really couldn't care less.

That's probably not the best attitude, especially with chem, and to a lesser extent, physics next year... What a pro though for knocking off english first!

That's odd... I'm not sure what my school does. I reckon they'd allow psychology (science) without doing 1&2 but that's just a guess based on what are probably some prety big assumptions on my part.

Legal studies it was good taht i did 1&2 because half the course is repeated again in 3&4 but just in a bit more detail... it made it easer but it's defs not totaly nessicary.

Yeah, you may have a point there.

I was fine with Physics, probably did well on that.

Chem is the one I neglected most. I didn't attend my 1&2's for a month, instead staying at home to study for my 3&4's. Who knew that the teacher would go over all the important things (like gases) during that month! :P

I've already started studying for the subjects I'm doing next year so hopefully that'll help.

Haha, I may have 'knocked off' English but that doesn't necessarily mean I did well! :P

That is true with most schools, psych is known to be the easiest VCE science since VCE Geology (in the '80s)! Mostly wrote rote learning and so many multiple choice (from what I have been told be those who have completed the course)...

Wish bio had like 60 M-C questions...

rote* . Psych is approximately half MCQ, half SA. According to rumour however the new study design incorporates a mini essay-type question...

I felt I did well in my 3/4 and in my 1/2s I got an A average. I just started studying early to balance it out.

erghhh the word "NICHE" comes to mind from year 11 bio. Pray I never have to learn about wildlife again, I couldn't care less about it. I swear half of the year 11 bio cohort at my school dropped it because of how bad unit 1/2 is (Unit 1 is alright, but you still need to learn about PLANTS :()

Psych HAD 44 MC and then SA was worth 46 marks. I actually hated how many MC there were cos it always meant there were like 2 ambiguous ones which screwed you over. But I'm not sure if the number of MC will drop with the new study design..

And that is the beautiful thing about biomedicine.  :)

"NICHE" is used again in Unit 4, but thankfully minus the ecosystems :)
