Is it normal?

I spent all my time and devotion studying for my 3/4 this year, that I did less than impressive on my 1/2 exams... got two C+ in legal and psych for not studying at ALL. >< Did anyone else neglect their 1/2's for their 3/4's in year 11? Feeling bad about it....
Did anyone here do well in their 3/4's the next year despite doing shit in 1/2 for that subject? Scared now...

P.S EDIT*: I wouldn't be disadvantaged too much due to this neglect, right? As my subjects are Further ,Legal,Psych, Viscom and English.. 2 of them are just rote learning..

Opposite for me, got about 95% average in the year 11 exams and totally flunked my 3+4 (methods). Prioritised most of my time on the yr 11 subjects (why? I don't know)

I was averaging C in chemistry 1/2 but pulled off an A+ in mid years and i reckon I almost aced end of years 3/4 as well. You just gotta make sure you know the ground knowledge of year 11 subs as most year 12 subs just build on it. You shud use ur time in summer holidays to review anything you feel unsure of and try to read ahead with ur yr 12 textbooks cuz thats what i did...   :P

i did that, and im pretty sure i will end up fine this year.

Got two 40+'s for my 3/4's in year 11, and failed chem, and barely scraped through for my other subjects.

Yeah it's very normal, I didn't even turn up to my school exams for my 1/2 exams cause I had two 3/4's to do :)

Got about a 75% average in SACs which subsequently became an A for GA1, then got 2 B+'s for both exams (I'm thinking both were low B+'s)

Same here with bio (although a flunk for me is an A...).

Subjects like chem, spesh and english cannot be done really at 3+4 level well without the prior knowledge/practice gained in 1+2s (my personal thinking), and I always felt that bio would be in my bottom two anyway!

Some of my friends only studied 3+4 (eg Accounting) and put loads of pressure on them for the exam by doing all these 3+4 related things outside of school (tuition+TSFX+NEAP+study-cards+... = $$$$$$$) and then when they didn't get the desired result (eg. B+ or A) in the midyear, they gave up on it. Having already given up on their 1+2s to focus on their 3+4, they were in a very bad and unfortunate position come semester 2: what to study now?

I agree with what's been said. I had my Accounting 3/4 mid-year exam in between 1/2 exams - I neglected about 2 out of 6 1/2 exams. Even if your 1/2 results weren't great, you still have time to work on them over the coming holidays. It's natural in most cases to be focusing on your 3/4 subject as opposed to your 1/2 subjects.

Though, the only real concern I have is that there may be no balance. If you focus too much on your 3/4 subject, how will people go in Year 12 with 5 or 6 3/4 subjects.?.. you want to counter-balance your 1/2's with your 3/4. Going into Year 12, give equal amounts of time to your subjects.

Yes it is deinifitely normal.
I always prioritised my 3/4's over my 1/2s this year, although i may not end up getting very high study scores, ill end up with decent ones and i always knew that bio was going to be bottom 2, but i thought further would be top 4....
but yeah doing well in 1/2s provide a solid foundatoin for your 3/4s, this is mainly relevent to chem, methods etc not all subjects require you to have prior knowledge.

None of my subjects realy required me to have a solid 1&2 foundation (althought it would probably help) so I completely neglected them... I still managed to ace english though which was nice.

Generally speaking most maths and science courses require preivous knowledge.
Lucky you! :)  I havent even finished my exams yet... still got 2 left...
I hope i do well in english, it's my worst subject. Actually i think it is most maths/science students worst subjects.....

Subjects like Chemistry, Methods, Physics and so on IMO do require a solid foundation. Subjects like Accounting, Legal don't necessarily require Units 1/2.

Interestingly my school offers Biology 3/4 (science subject) at the Year 11 level (without doing Biology 1/2 previously) - which isn't probably the case with other schools.
