For writing task 1, where a piece of writing has to be developed using the information on that page without presenting an argument.
How exactly do you go about doing this. Selecting the main information, can you do it in an essay format.

it is used for moderation in all humanites subjects - including english, small lotes... etc and if you fall sick before your exams then a derived score would be good vs 0 = fail
So it isn't worthless as such...

But not really worth frantic study or practice - at most look at the format

As for that section - you can write it as an informative essay - ie group the information into categories - eg social, physical, environmental etc and formulate your essay around the

sure thing. if you dont want to have a backup for calculations if you needed a derived exam score, your choice.

oh, and, practically all universities now take into account of your GAT [if you are just under your preference], so by all means, dont take it seriously, because it will be absolutely worthless.

yeah don't. The GAT consideration is only for the middle-band anyway and I'm not giving VTAC permission to look at my GAT results (IT FEELS SO GOOD, I FEEL LIBERATED :D ). Some people get like <20 for maths but get 40+ for math subjects. + the probability of you miraculously getting sick is like 0.0000000000000000000001.

So yeah don't.

c'mon guys, some backup > no backup. at least you should take it seriously, even if you are not going to do any preparations for it.

Okay....... you have come to a conlcusion that the doing your best in the GAT would be a better option than not taking it seriously. So can anyone answer the original question? I would like to know the answer as well.....

I just wrote an essay style response last year. Sort of read thru the information and grouped information together according to what I thought would be a logical flow of ideas.
I remember enwiabe last year saying something about writing a creative piece which could also be another option.

You are given graphs and stuff so just interpret the information and make it flow logically and coherently if you intend on an essay style format. I got 43 for Written so my style could possibly be a decent one to consider. Play to your strengths though.

I can't remember what I got for written communication last year, maybe 47? Anyway, I wrote it in a journalistic-style informative article.

I just wrote LOL.  I remember the 2007 one was about this new thing in the south pole, so I just wrote "there is going to be this thing, and this thing has all these cool features."

I got a 42 :P  I concede that I didn't try very hard. I might try Eriny's journalistic informative style thing this year!

I got 50 in the humanties bit LOL.  Fluked, of course.  And I got 50 in the math when I did the GAT in year 10 (got 45 when I did it in year 11).  So maybe this year I'll get 50 in the english :P :P

Anyway, I think the GAT is quite fun :D I like doing stuff like that, I don't think it's a waste of time.  I can't stand people who boast about how they completed it in like 30 minutes or whatever - the GAT should be enjoyed slowly so you can savour every question :P

I did a similar thing on mine. I'd a lot better at that than creative writing, and I think informative writing suited the task better.

I also enjoyed the GAT in the intellectually-fun kind of way, although I think I'd prefer those 6 hours back.

What kind of raw scores in each Section (Maths/Science and Humanities) typically correspond to what standardised score?

Also, I heard that Monash Uni are considering the GAT this year. Is this true, and if it is, how are they going to use it?

Thanks.
