Unfortunately I have stopped offering this service due to having commenced full-time employment. If you wish to learn my methods, please purchase the ExamPro VCE English 3/4 Study Guide instead which I wrote by following the eStore link above.
SummaryMy name's Andrew and I graduated in 2008 from Melbourne High School with an ENTER score (as it was known back then) of 99.70. I am now in my fifth and final year of studying Medicine/Surgery at Monash University and have been providing tuition part time ever since I graduated, giving me over 4 years of tutoring experience.
The sessions I am conducting are basically
one-on-one,
once-off sessions running for
3 hours. These sessions will cover the entire mainstream English course right through from how to prepare during the summer, over the course of the year, just before the exam to examination strategy for the day of the exam itself.
They will take a very focused approach with roughly an hour spent on each section of the exam - the text response, context and language analysis - explaining how to prepare in terms of content, but perhaps more importantly to many, also exactly how to write it. This is particularly important because as I'm sure many of you will begin to realise next year, funnily enough, many English teachers at school don't actually teach you how to write! I'll be teaching my formulaic style of writing which I know many prefer - especially those maths/science students like myself - as it basically simplifies and solidifies both the structure and expression elements of essay writing. By providing a deep insight into what I've identified largely as the three key elements of VCE English -
structure,
content and
expression - you will find a much more structured approach towards writing and studying in VCE English.
I can virtually cover any text as I teach quite a generalised system which can be adapted to any text. Regardless, I am familiar with most of the popular texts and have been providing examples for my students throughout my explanations. For context, I can teach any of the four as I have taught them all at some point.
The previous set of notes which I used throughout 2011 have sparked much acclaim and praise from my previous students. As a result of this, they have since been published in early 2012 as the
ATARNotes VCE English Study Guide. This study guide will be provided free of charge with any full sessions conducted. The study guide summarises everything that will be covered on the day, allowing you to easily revise any of the content later in the year by yourself, whilst also avoiding the need to take your own notes for the 3 hours. It also contains pieces of work written by myself which scored
10/10 as marked by VCAA examiners, together with examples from other students who scored 50 in English, as well as comprehensive lists of vocabulary and phrases that I used myself which you can simply integrate into your own writing.
Any additional time remaining in the sessions can be used for you to attempt to apply the methods that you will learn and immediately get feedback, or even just discuss any of my other subjects (Biology, Business Management, Methods, Spesh, Chemistry with their respective study scores in my forum signature) and how to prepare for them, or for you to ask questions regarding the UMAT and Medicine course itself. Advice on organising study plans and strategies has also been a popular option.
Pricing and LocationFor these sessions, I will be charging
$150 for each 3 hour session. While seemingly quite pricey, keep in mind that I am practically teaching everything I know within the one session, as opposed to some other tutors which 'reserve' their knowledge until later in the year to force you to keep coming back.
Read my endorsements below and over
here from students who have attended my sessions to get an idea of how others have found my program. Remember to take such things into account when choosing a tutoring program and not just blindly looking at study scores. Having conducted over 100 of these sessions already without any dissatisfied customers over the last few years, I am confident in my abilities to provide a quality and cost-effective tuition experience.
The sessions can be held at the State Library, Box Hill Library, Glen Waverley Library or my residence in Doncaster East. Glen Waverley and Box Hill are recommended due to the availability of private study rooms. There is also the option for me to drive to your place (preferably south-eastern suburbs), but additional charges may apply for travelling time and petrol costs if the distance is quite far (beyond 30 minutes drive). So if you're interested either PM me on this site or e-mail me on
[email protected] with your details to be placed on the waiting list (see news/updates above for instructions). Alternatively, call me on 0433 599 303 and I'll discuss with you when would work best. Contact me for further details regarding this. Lastly, I carry a current Police Check and Working With Children Check for my university course, so both of these can be sighted upon request.
GuaranteeLastly, since I know that many students and parents are skeptical of student tutors, once again as a guarantee I'll offer a 1 hour 'grace' period where if you're not satisfied with what you're receiving within the first hour, you can just walk out and not pay a cent. However, after having conducted over 100 sessions already, no students have used this yet so hopefully you'll be equally as satisfied as they have been. Hope to hear from you!
