That's fine, just take out the calc syntax and put the answer straight in.

What is acceptable working out for probability questions were your using the calculators pdf and cdf functions?

Does this get me marks?
Let X = number of wins
X ~ Bi(20, 0.574)

Pr(X=4) = binompdf(20,0.574,4)
?

I usually write out the full equation; i.e.

X ~ Binomially;

Pr(x=4) = 20C4 (0.574)^4 x (0.426)^16

Every year in the assesment reports they complain about cacl syntax and that students should stop using it.

Yeah i just swap calc syntax for its equivalent in my working. For binomcdf just use sigma notation

Maths is a social construct
It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

If a question (worth 1 mark) asks:

Without using calculus, find when the rate of change of p is a maximum.

And the p(t) is a trig function (sin), do we have to show working, or can we just state the answer?

1 mark I'd say no working needed, but put somethinng like rate of change max when sin(t)=pi/4 then ..... e.t.c just in case.

Thanks b^3! Yeah, just to be safe. :P

Just wondering, (1 mark again) for describing a translation of y=f(x) to y=f(x+h)

Would writing a "horizontal translation of h units in the negative x-axis", suffice, or would you lose marks? (and instead have to write something more comprehensive)
Just wondering - sometimes I get careless :P

i'd just say translation of h units left parallel to the x-axis

Unless I'm blind, has anyone posted a definitive guide to the methodology of writing out probability questions without calc syntax?

I'd do it, but I'm not entirely sure myself, and my teachers have never even mentioned it :o

haha dude last page!
and these vociferous PMs from luffy:
I swear to god.... I've told you at least 100 times that calc syntax will make you lose marks rather than gain.... Are you like stupid? Seriously... wth.

Are you trying to detract from the fact that your so stupid for asking the question? (I'm 100% serious here.)

Whn specifying domains for things invilvig infinity,
for example R+ , but we want to use the other notation:
(0, infinity) do we have to place a '+' sign in front of infinity?

And... Oh... My.... GOD! Quit methods asap. Uninstall VCE.exe.

That question would be fair enough if you were worried about the most minute things because you know the rest of the content to the 100% level. I hope you realise you have no chance of getting a 35+, and if you were able to somehow fluke this feat, I'll shave my ass, put a bag over my head, and let you walk me in public with a leash around my neck.
